SUBJECT: NSPG Meeting on Central America,
18 February 1983
1. The following materials are provided for the meeting:
-- Intelligence Briefing. requested
an intelligence briefing on El Salvador (how the
war is going, strengths, weaknesses, etc),
Nicaragua, Honduras and Costa Rica. Constantine
Menges prepared this briefing for you.
-- State Department Paper. I understand that this
meeting is to be a general discussion of our policy
in Central America. The State Department Paper may
be a central item of this discussion. Dewey said
that this version is an improvement of earlier
ones.
-- Quality of Intelligence. Ted Atkeson prepared a
piece on our intelligence of the Salvadoran War
and the utility of US assistance.
