Suq al Gharb, currently occupied by at least a battalion of
the Lebanese Army, is quiet following last night's attacks. The
Army also occupied the town of Al Qammatiyah to the northeast.
-- The LAF this morning had sent a tank company and possibly
an infantr battalion from Kfar Shima to reinforce these
positions.
Druze and Palestinian forces in Alayh, however, have
reportedly launched an attack against the Lebanese Army 83rd
battalion in Arraya on the Beirut-Damascus highway.
-- The LAF, well dug in around Arraya and supported by heavy
artillery, will probably be able to drive off the
attackers.
Iranians and various
Palestinian factions, including -- an-controlled group,
participated in last night's attacks on Suq al Gharb.

35th Syrian Special Forces regiments have been involved
in fighting in the Shuf/Alayh region. 25X1
-- Palestinian participation, however, is probably critical
to the Druze. The Druze do not have the training or
experience to engage regular troops--training which the
PLO has.
Dayr al Qamar, a Christian village beseiged by the Druze,
and Qabr Shamun, a Druze village beseiged by the Lebanese Army
and Christian militia, remain quiet.
