Update on Intelligence Community Program on Narcotics
-- Production of field information reports is up about one third in
FY-83 versus FY-82.
-- Total DDO manpower will increase by 32% between FY 83-84.
-- DDO funding on Narcotics will rise by 29% between FY 83-84.
-- Four DDO stations added Narcotics to their OD in FY 83.
-- Analytical output of the Strategic Narcotics Branch is up significantly
in FY-83 over FY-82.
-- Narcotics crop production estimates have been completed on three
countries thus far in FY-83.
-- The DDI has L _]analysts working full-time on Narcotics intelligence
versus 0 in FY-82. One additional position has been requested for
FY-84, and two for FY-85.
Intelligence Community
-- Two NIEs are under preparation; the first two ever done by the
Community. One looks at Colombia; the other assesses eradication
programs.
-- NIOs or equivalents have been appointed at NSA, DIA, and CIA.
-- DEA is developing a Community-wide dissemination system for
intelligence information collected by its officers overseas.
-- An Interagency Study on Financial Flows is underway.
