1. Enclosed are items requested by Dr. Foster at the 28 April
meeting of the Strategic Task Force:
a. Map showing SS-20 coverage of Europe.
b. Copy of the SS-20 Transportability Study.
c. Brief paper on the Ease of Converting SS-20 IRBMs
into SS-16 ICBMs.
Item c is a copy of a 1977 draft which was never formally published.
It has been recently reviewed by appropriate CIA staff analysts and
found to be an accurate presentation on the subject of conversion.
Also provided herewith is material that may be of interest to Dr. Foster:
- Pages from NIE 11-3/8-83 concerning SS-20 transportability and
deployment
- Pages from a 1979 IIM concerning the SS-20
2. Also enclosed is a paper in response to requests to Dick Kerr,
during his meeting with PFIAB, for additional information regarding the
Office of Soviet Analysis.
3. The information Dr. Foster requested on the SS-20 range is
being prepared and will be forwarded upon completion.
