I deeply appreciate your sending me the Index of IL'L`S? Articles,
Perspectives, and Briefs. I must say quite candidly though
I read most of those issues (I do receive the report weekly)
and, as you know, it is the one which most matches my responsi-
bilities on the Board. I had no sense of the extraordinary
volume and range of the coverage. Indeed, had the index
covered the entire year rather than simply most of she last
quarter of 1982, I would have found that volume of analysis
and commentary impressive. After I was finished skimming
through the pages and looking in detail at the subjects
covered involving several of the LDC debtor countries, I
turned back to the cover page just to assure myself that all
of this was the output in a three-month period. Quantity,
however, is one measure, quality is the most important one.
It is my judgment and I have conveyed it to my colleagues on
the Board that economic intelligence is now superior to the
coverage of that field during the six years of Ifty membership
on the Board.
