I thought you would want to know that the CIA
and Intelligence Community were complimented con-
cerning their inputs on a number of the SIG agenda
items. Under Secretary Schneider specifically cited
the TTIC Subcommittee on Export Control's paper on
China's hi h technology trade cases F __1
The IC's continuing support to the
COCOM List Review, under STIC's auspices were cited
as key to progress being made there. The TTIC
Japan study F_ _j TTAC) sailed through the
policy review by the SIG and will be used by
Secretary Shultz during his stop in Japan. The
SIG asked us to undertake a similar case study on
France. Overall I would say our efforts are being
appreciated.7~

Interim Progress Reports
Interim Progress Reports, A-H, on ongoing SIG activities are
attached at Tab B. These activities are progressing satis-
factorily with the exception of the Commerce led project on
Soviet Access to Western Data Bases, which has come up short in
funding the $400K needed for contract consulting services. We
will explore this problem in TTIC and see if joint funding can be
found.
