SUBJECT: Control of Unclassified Technology with Military
Application
1. Secretary Weinberger recently signed an order that should help
stem much of DoDs loss of militarily significant technology through
open source publications. It establishes a system of controls for
protection of technical data that is produced by or for DoD. The order
will be in effect for 90 days, during which time they hope to affect a
permanent change to their policy.
2. DoD should be congratulated for this action. We believe it
should go a long way toward preventing Soviet access to sensitive
information. A copy of the order is attached.
