Dear Mr. Chairman:
This is to inform you that per your request of
.27 December 1982, we have completed our search for
a copy of the 28 June 1947 hearing before the Com-
mittee on Expenditures in the Executive Departments.
The review of appropriate Agency files has not turned
up any copies of the hearing. We must conclude there-
fore that the Agency does not have in its possession
a copy of the 28 June 1947 transcript.

Dear Mr. Casey:
As you know from previous correspondence, this committee and the
Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence voted to release the June 27,
1947, hearing before the Committee on Expenditures in the Executive
Departments, held during the 80th Congress on H.R. 2319, the National
Security Act of 1947. A copy of the printed transcript is enclosed for
your information.
I should like to call to your attention the last page (72) of the
testimony where there are two references to a second day of hearings
that were presumably held on June 28, 1947, at which Admiral Hillenkoetter
was scheduled to testify. Our committee minutes indicate that the
committee did in fact meet that day from 10:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. and
that "The Committee heard the remaining witnesses in Executive Session
who testified on the Central Intelligence Agency. They also heard the
testimony of, and questioned, The Honorable Sterling Cole."
The committee does not have in its records a copy of the executive
session for June 28, 1947. In the event the Central Intelligence Agency
was also provided by Chairman Hoffman a copy of the transcript for that
day's hearing, the committee would like to recover it for historical
purposes. Please advise whether or not the Agency has now or ever has
had in its possession a copy of the transcript for June 28, 1947. If
a copy is still in the possession of the Agency, please advise whether
or not it can now be declassified.
