Approved For Release 2008/01/14: CIA-RDP85M00364RO01803590020-7 20 July 1983 NOTE TO; Director of Central Intelligence Central Intelligence Agency Office of the Deputy Director for Intelligence Deputy Director for Intelligence Judge Clark asked Secretary Weinberger to get in touch with you about releasing more classified intelligence on Soviet CW and BW capabilities in response to a letter from Senator Mattingly. The Senator states that more such information is needed to salvage the Administration's CW program on the Hill. This is the first such request since our recent sessions on public diplomacy. This is a good test case inasmuch as an enormous amount of information already has been declassified and made publicly available. There have been two major White papers issued by State (one of which is essentially a declassified SNIE) and a third is unclassified testimony presented by this Directorate to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee earlier this year on the entire Soviet CW program. I think you should tell the Secretary and Judge Clark that a great deal already is available and there is no need to release any more. lr&-- Grrc- c... - Ant-4, [a Robe ates SF.fRF.T Approved For Release 2008/01/14: CIA-RDP85M00364RO01803590020-7
