Dear Dr. Newman:
I was disappointed when, due to your busy schedule, you were unable
to join with me and a few of your colleagues from other colleges and
universities on October 13, 1982. From the comments of the academic
participants, I believe that the program that day was of interest to them.
For my part, I know that I and my associates here at the Central Intel-
ligence Agency benefited from the suggestions proffered by our guests
both on how?we in the Agency could better do our jobs and how we could
.further improve relations with academe.
The exercise was of such value to me that I have decided to hold a
similar meeting with another small group of presidents on March 23rd.
I do hope that you will be able to join me on that date. The program
will be similar to the one for last October; i.e., to begin about 9:00 a.m.
and continue to around 4:00 p.m.; to consist of short meetings with me
at the beginning and end of the day and, between those two. meetings, a
series of briefings by senior Agency officials on how we-carry out our
role in government.
My Coordinator for Academic Affairs
has already been in touch with a member of your staff and will be available
to discuss details of your visit if, as.I hope, you will be able to join me
on March 23rd.
