SUBJECT: Proposal to Brief College Professors Who
Conduct Courses on Intelligence
1. Action Requested: Approve in principle an
Agency-sponsored unclassified seminar on intelligence conducted
for college professors who teach courses on intelligence.
2. Background: This proposal has evolved from
discussions among DO's CT Recruitment Task Force, Public
Affairs, and the Coordinator for Academic Affairs. It is
supported by the Center for the Study of Intelligence.
The proposed scenario is to invite the 30 or 40
professors of intelligence to come to Headquarters at Agency
expense on a specified day in the Fall for a round of formal
briefings by and discussions with Agency officers. The purpose
of the session would be to enhance the reception of CT
recruiters on-campus in the future, to clarify the known
misperceptions of teaching professors, and to enhance the
prestige and authenticity of such professors by giving them
first-hand exposure to intelligence professionals and the work
they do.
If you approve, we propose an early planning meeting of
representatives from the offices mentioned above.to outline an
appropriate program, identify briefers, define supporting
roles, and determine invitees.
3. Recommendation: Approve this activity in principle to
enable planning to proceed, which will be subject to your final
review and approval.
