I have been informed by Gary Russell of Senator Boschwitz'
office that President Reagan will be visiting Minnesota on
June 9, 1983.
Apparently the White House has not yet decided whether the
President should accept my invitation to speak at Hamline
and so recognize the special achievements of this school
over the past ten years, It would be an important occasion
for the President to dramatize in public an example of ini-
tiative, hard work and vision resulting in success. Second,
at a law school it would be appropriate for the President to
discuss in public his sense of responsibility that all citi-
zens need shoulder if our republic is to maintain its pride
and self-confidence.
I am grateful for your assistance in the past in communicat-
ing to the White House your support of my invitation to the
President. I would ask that you again communicate to the
President''s planning staff the opportunities you feel he
would have by making a short public appearance at the Hamline
University School of Law.
