Korb Assistant Secretary of Defense (Manpower, Reserve Affairs and Logistics) ,Department of Defense -Washington, D.C. 20301 RIOM sve Reg" 83-4143h Larry: We seek your assistance in identifying military officers who are leaving the Military Services in order that we may acquaint those who meet certain of our criteria with employment opportunities in the Central Intelligence Agency. We have found that the sense of discipline and the training received by young military officers is likely to provide the kind of young men and women who can. bring to us the skills, talent,-and sense of responsibility and motivation we seek in our officers. We understand that the Privacy Act of 1974, as amended, 5 U.S.C. s552a, applies to the exchange of protected information between the Department of Defense and the Central Intelligence Agency. What we propose would of course be .kept entirely within the provisions of that Act. In that spirit, I request that each month you provide us with a list of officers who have been approved for separation from the Military Services. From among those listed, we will invite selected officers to consider career opportunities in the. Central Intelligence Agency. We will not seek to re- cruit military persons prior to the approval of their separation by their Military Department. We believe it is important, however, to contact these officers as soon as possible after their Military Department has granted their request for separation. Only separating officers who meet the attached "general criteria" should be listed. When those officers are identified, please prepare separate lists for each Military Service. We would appreciate detailed information on the advanced degrees, language capabilities, and overseas experience of each officer whom you identify.
