This memorandum provides, for your information, a brief statement on the Fifth Annual Progress Report of the Economic Defense Intelligence Committee which is placed before the IAC for noting. It is expected that the EDIC Chairman, will be present at the IAC Meeting. 2. This Committee (EDIC) is responsible for intelligence support to the Economic Defense Advisory Committee (EDAC) and for coordination of intelligence for the economic defense program. EDIC's formal activities were somewhat reduced during 1956/57 because of the extended review of US policy on multilateral trade controls against Communist China and the European Soviet Bloc. Nevertheless, very substantial intelligence support was rendered by IAC agencies represented on EDIC through direct contributions to EDAC , its subcommittees, and its working groups. The EDIC Chairman, as CIA member of the EDAC Executive Committee, 25X1 Approved For Release 2003/02/2~ZT-D P85S00362R000400080003-6 ckr Approved For Ruse 2003/02/27 64N4DP85S00362RQWJ400080003-6 SUBJECT: Briefing Note on IAC-D.-53/9 for IAC Meeting, 10 December 1957 participated in CHINCOM discussions in Paris in May 1957. 3.
