Committee dated 23 April 1957
1. This report outlines the activities of the d hot sugcore mtttee
established by the IAC an 3 April 1956 to study means. iueluting a
possible lnterdeepae?iwsenikal mechanism. for providing increased in-
telligence support for activities directed toward recovery of U. S.
nationals held in Cowwuaist countries. Because this was regarded as
primarily a matter within the cognisance of the Departments of Defense
and State. CIA agreed at that time that the chairmanship of the Cam -
shuld go to the Department of Defense.
