1. SIGNIFICANCE:
THIS BRIEFING BOARD DEPICTS THE FLOW OF SUPPLIES INTO THE DMZ BY WAY
OF ROUTE 103 AND HEAVILY USED TRAILS.
2. LOCATION:
2.9 NM NORTH OF THE NORTHERN BOUNDARY OF THE DMZ.
3. BACKGROUND:
THE TERMINUS OF ROUTE 103 WAS OBSERVED TO BE A POSSIBLE STAGING AREA IN
OCTOBER 1965 (SEE NPIC BRIEFING BOARD K-4175). A TRAIL SYSTEM EXTENDS FROM
NORTH VIETNAM ROUTE 103 ACROSS THE DEMILITARIZED ZONE INTO LAOS AT 1653N 10633E
AND JOINS LAOS ROUTE 9 JUST NORTH-NORTHWEST OF SEPONE, LAOS AT 1641N 10614E.
4. MISSION READOUT:
REVEALS ACTIVE TRANSSHIPMENT ACTIVITY AT 25X1
THE SOUTHERN MOST MOTORABLE TERMINUS OF ROUTE. 103, 2.9 NM NORTH OF THE NORTHERN
BOUNDARY OF THE DMZ. ACTIVITY CONSISTS OF NUMEROUS UNIDENTIFIED STACKS OF
SUPPLIES, FOUR EMPTY TRUCKS PARKED APPROXIMATELY 500 YARDS NORTH OF THE AREA,
TWO TRUCKS LOADED WITH UNIDENTIFIED SUPPLIES HEADING SOUTH APPROXIMATELY 600 YARDS
NORTH, SEVEN HUTS (ONE NOT SHOWN ON GRAPHIC) ONE PIROGUE (NOT SHOWN ON GRAPHIC),
AND AT LEAST 75 PERSONNEL WORKING THROUGHOUT THE AREA. TWO HEAVILY USED TRAILS
