REFERENCE T0: BH Q-111 NEW TYPE RADAR
HANOI SAM SITE A25A-02 NVN 549)
N RTH VIETNAM
1. SIGNIFICANCE: A NEW TYPE RADAR OBSERVED COLLOCATED WITH
AN SA-2 SITE IN NORTH VIETNAM.
2. LOCATION: HANOI SAM SITE A25A-02 (NUN 549) IS 9 NM
SOUTHWEST OF HANOI AT 20-54-58N 105-44-09E.
3. BACKGROUND: RADARS IDENTIFIED AS FIRE CANS HAVE PREVIOUSLY
BERN OBSERVED.COLLOCATED AT FIVE SA-2 SITES
IN THE HANOI AREA OF NORTH VIETNAM. THE NEW
TYPE RADAR IS SIMILAR IN APPEARANCE TO THE
FIRE CAN, ESPECIALLY THE SIZE OF THE REFLECTOR
AND ITS POSITION ON THE PROBABLE VAN TRAILER.
BECAUSE OF THIS GENERAL SIMILARITY, THE RADARS
' IDENTIFIED AS FIRE CAN AT THE FIVE SA-2 SITES
MAY ALSO HAVE BEEN THE NEW TYPE RADAR. AVAILABLE
PHOTOGRAPHY IS NOT ADEQUATE FOR MORE DETAILED
ANALYSIS. 25X1

IDENTIFICATION: THIS MISSION
7. MISSION READOUT: A NEW TYPE RADAR WAS OBSERVED NEAR THE
CENTRAL GUIDANCE AREA OF A NEWLY IDENTIFIED FIELD-DEPLOYED SA-2
SITE IN THE HANOI AREA OF NORTH VIETNAM. THE NEW RADAR IS
SIMILAR IN APPEARANCE TO THE FIRE CAN RADAR BUT NOT IDENTICAL
TO ANY KNOWN RADAR SYSTEM. THE RADAR HAS A SINGLE PARABOLIC
REFLECTOR MOUNTED ON A PROBABLE VAN TRAILER. .THE REFLECTOR
IS APPROXIMATELY IN DIAMETER AND IS EITHER
A SOLID OR FINE MESH DISH. THE DISH IS MOUNTED ON A CONICAL
SHAPED PEDESTAL, POSITIONED APPROXIMATELY ONE THIRD THE DISTANCE
ALONG THE LONG AXIS OF THE PROBABLE VAN TRAILER. THE ANTENNA
FEED IS POSITIONED APPROXIMATELY FROM THE

7. MISSION READOUT: (CONT'D)
CENTER OF THE REFLECTOR. A CENTER AXIS FEED SUPPORT IS ABSENT.
.THE FEED ELEMENT APPEARS TO HAVE A TRIPOD OR MULTI-BAR SUPPORT
ATTAEHED INSIDE THE DISH. THE DISTANCE FROM THE BASE OF THE
ACCURATE MEASUREMENTS OF THE PROBABLE VAN TRAILER
CANNOT BE DETERMINED DUE TO REVETTING AND CAMOUFLAGING MEASURES.
APPROXIMATE MEASURE INDICATE THE TRAILER IS
IN LENGTH AND AT LEAST IN HEIGHT.
NOTE: THE FIRE CAN DOES NOT HAVE A CONICAL PEDESTAL OR A
TRIPOD/MU.LTI-BAR FEED SUPPORT AS IS OBSERVED ON THE NEW TYPE
RADAR.
