LOCATION: VINH YEN ARMY BARRACKS AND VEHICLE STORAGE MILES (NM) NORTHWEST OF HANOI AT 21-21-22N 105-37-o4E. IS 15 NM SOUTHWEST OF HANOI AT 20-53- 14N 105-34-48E. LUONG DIEN ARMOR DISPERSAL AREA q IS 29 NM SOUTHWEST OF THANH HOA AT 3. REMARKS : 19-23-o8N 105-42-45E. MISSION READOUT: AREAS IN NORTH VIETNAM ON 17 DECEMBER. VINH YEN ARMY BARRACKS AND VEHICLE STORAGE AREA - AT THE VEHICLE STORAGE FACILITY (PARTIALLY DEPICTED ON GRAPHIC), 83 PIECES OF ARMOR AND SEVEN UNIDENTIFIED PIECES OF EQUIPMENT WERE PRESENT. THE PIECES OF ARMOR IN- CLUDED 60 TANKS, 12 PROBABLE TANKS, 10 M-1967 (APC), AND ONE PROBABLE ARV. ADDITIONAL EQUIPMENT WAS PARKED IN DISPERSED AREAS WITHIN FOUR NM OF THE FACILITY. THE DISPERSED EQUIPMENT INCLUDED 75 PIECES OF ARMOR, 22 TPM, 29 MAZ-537, 28 LOWBED TRAILERS AND 21 UNIDENTIFIED PIECES OF EQUIP- MENT. THE PIECES OF ARMOR WERE 48 TANKS, ONE POSSIBLE TANK, NINE PROB- ABLE TANKS, FOUR BTR-60, TWO PROBABLE BTR-60, 10 BTR-6O.PB, AND ONE M-1967 (ARC). IN ADDITION, ONE TANK WAS.ON THE TANK FIRING RANGE AT HUU THU TANK TRAIN- ING AREA ARMOR CONCENTRATIONS WERE OBSERVED IN THREE NEAR VINH YEN. NO LARGE STORAGE AREAS WERE PRESENT. LUONG DIEN ARMOR DISPERSAL AREA (PARTIALLY DEPICTED ON GRAPHIC) - THIS NEWLY IDENTIFIED DISPERSAL AREA IS 5.5 NM SOUTHWEST OF CONG PHU WHERE 10 TANKS WERE SEEN ON NO PERMANENT FACILITIES ARE PRESENT WITHIN THE AREA. A TOTAL OF 47 TANKS AND 17 BTR-60 PB WAS OBSERVED IN SEVEN PARKING ENLARGEMENT FACTOR: 40X XUAN MAI TEOC AL475 & AI4+77 COMPLETE CLEAR STEREO BLACK AND WHITE 5 ENLARGEMENT FACTOR: 25X LUONG DIEN OBC 333 & 336 COMPLETE CLEAR STEREO BLACK AND WHITE 5 These notes have been prepared for briefing purposes only and should not be used for detailed analytical work.
