SIGNIFICANCE: CSS-2 training activity including a launch continued at launch site A during late June and early July. 2. REMARKS:. Missile training activity has been observed on several occasions in the vicinity of launch site A between and July 1974. Launch training preparations observed immediately preceded an actual launch of a CSS-2 IRM This firing was the first - issile to be fired from Wu-chai since May 1972. a CSS-2 transporter-erector was on the launch pad-and a line of 14 support vehicles extended in an easterly direction from the pad. Included in the line of support vehicles were a warhead van and a launch stand on its transporter. most of the CSS-2 ground support equipment observed in the vicinity of the launch'pad had been moved-to the main support base, and a CSS-2 missile was erected on the launch pad. Two launch control/monitoring van trucks were positioned near the pad in nre- paration for launch. Missile trainin activit observed) resembles that which preceded launch. However, it does not neces- sarily indicate another launch as CSS-2 IREMs previously have been seen on the launch pad that were not immediately followed by a missile launch. I a canvas-covered CSS-2 transporter-erector and a launc stand on the launch pad. Also, 15 support vehicles and a trailer were parked in a line extending in an easterly direction from the pad, similar to those observed during April, May and June preceding the launch. When next observed a CSS-2 missile without a warhead was in a horizontal position on its transporter-erector backed-up to the launch stand near the center of the pad. A probable open warhead van with a mobile crane alongside was just off the northeast edge of the pad.
