High Political Council member Sink Matak told
5X1 yesterday that the Presi-
dent a cuffure another stroke" uarl,y on the morning
of 2 july. Word of Lon Nol''s %llness was conveyed ,to
Ratak by a Cambodian Army o f f. icar., who evidently is a
member of the President's entourage. According to
'Ratak, the officer stated that Lon Nol had'?almoat
died," his breathing was quite labored, and bin blood
pressure was very high. The officer added that 'the
President was ordered to bed for three days of com-
plete rest and that he was forbidden to exert himself
physically during that time.
There has been no confirmation of Lon Uol''s ill-
nuns. Ratak is in no position to -j,idge the exact
nature of the President's ailment., a,1d it is possible
he has merely had an attack of high biood pressure.
5X1 have long 'hold that
the President could have a second stro}E,e at any 'time
even though he has made a generally good recovery from
the one in February 197L.
