'I 77rA. Inter-Arab Financial Aid Four states, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, and Iraq received over 60% of all inter-Arab aid in 1972 and between 66% and 81,8 each year during 1960-71. Most of this aid has been in the form of grants for economic projects. Khartoum aid from Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, started in the fall of 1967, has given Egypt and Jordan nearly $1.3 billion in the five year period. Total aid by Saudi Arabia and Kuwait to all 4 countries equaled $779 million and $740 million respectively. The current conflict has resulted in aid commitments of over $2.5 billion to Egypt and Syria and a probable restoration of Kuwaiti Khartoum payments to Jordan which were suspended in 1971. As yet it is not known whether the back payments to Jordan for 1971 and 1972 will be made up by Kuwait. CIA/OER 8 November 1973 Approved For ` ?
