I. OPERATIONS
Editorial/Monitorial
Bureau Wordage -- Pub1i~shable wordage hi`t a record high during the
month with over 818,000 words processed, Though both Be~~~ing television
and the regional radios were productive, journals accounted for the highest
increase with two issues of HONGQI translated cover to cover. The Philippines
newspapers also accounted for some of the increase.
Philippines Newspapers .-- The bureau's attempts to procure Philippines
newspapers have finally been fruitful. One Manila newspaper and five
Mindanao papers have been ordered through the embassy in Manila. Thus far,
only the Manila BULLETIN TODAY is arriving regularly with the regional
papers being pouched by the embassy. Three Mani"la newspapers have been found
to be available from a local newspaper vendor with same day delivery. Initial
production results from all the papers received so far are encouraging, with
approximately 16,000 words filed from copies received during July.
Translation Request -- At the request of the embassy i~n Beijing, the bureau
translated three articles from JTAGE LILUN YU SHIJIAN (PRICE THEORY AND PRACTTCE~,
totaling some 10,500 words.
