SUBJECT Key West Monthly Report -- February 1983
I. GENERAL
The recruitment situation took.a turn for the better during the
month as three candidates for positions as monitor/edi.tor in Key West
were put into processing. In addition the bureau is- in contact with
two potential candidates, one in Florida and another in Puerto Rico,
who have done fine jobs on the initial written exam. Steps are now
being taken to interview and give them the audio Spanish exam,

The bureau received five Collins Model 651S-1 (serial numbers:
9.6, 9.76, 977, 9.78 and 2468) radio receivers from Abidjan, Only one
of the receivers is fully operational, one is completely dead and all
were so full of dirt and debri.s.that it is feared our electronics
specialist will contract some exotic tropical disease from the waste
in the receivers-.
III ADMINISTRATION
-Buiil'd ng' and- Grounds
The most significant accomplishments of the expansion project
during February were: the installation and securing of the doors and
the windows, the installation of the air-handling unit for the new
central air-conditioning system, the installation of most of the air-
conditioning ductwork., the near completion of the plumbing, including
the tie-in to the Navy water supply system and the plastering of the
external walls. The most dreaded part of the whole project--breaking
a new passageway from the present monitoring room into the new one--
was accomplished without interrupting
As a result of the expansion project, all antenna lead-in cables
were rerouted througha gooseneck in the roof of the new monitoring
room and then reconnected to the multicoupler and signal distribution
racks.
On 24-25 February the bureau was visited byl I ChieSTAT
Admin, and SSA/DDA. They were in Key West to survey STAT
housing market and general living conditions of the area.
