Approved gr Release 2001/09/04: CIA-RDP86-0 448000200050020-8 1,1 NOV 1912 MEMORANDUM FOR THE RECORD SUBJECT: Fairfax County Trail System Authority that development of parks and trails in flood plant areas would 1. On 13 November 1972, the undersigned attended, as an observer, a meeting of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. The meeting was held for the purpose of reviewing the Second Edition of a document entitled "Trail Systems Study for Fairfax County. " The Fairfax County Park Authority prepared the document and also, graphically and verbally, presented it to the Board of Supervisors at this meeting. 2. A copy of the First Edition of this report is currently in the hands of this division. At present, this division does not have a copy of the Second Edition. However, a copy of the second study will be obtained by this office as soon as possible. It must be noted that the Second Edition varies from the first, primarily in the fact that the impact of the Fairfax County Master Plan has now been considered by the study, and appropriate changes have been made to facilitate an interface between construction of trails in existing areas and the construction of trails in anticipated growth areas. The Second Edition divides the proposed County trail into 10 regional planning zones. 3. The Fairfax County Park Authority currently has approximately $300, 000 of its 1971 funds available for the start of construction of trails in the County. It is the Park Authority's desire to start some construction as soon as possible. The Board of Supervisors recommended to the Park I - e highly beneficial in-as-much as the County currently is buying this rty as it becomes available. In addition to this recommendation, r of placing trails in right-of-ways currently being occupied by main -k- it -r was suggested to the Park Authority that they explore the feasibility trunk sewer lines. A working level committee representative of the Board of Supervisors will be formed to coordinate the finalization of plans with the Park Authority and various citizens groups. The results of the committees work should be presented to the board prior to the next public meeting on this subject. A January public board meeting has been tentatively scheduled.
