TITLE: Experiment on the application of the electrohydraulic effect for cleaning of cast parts SOURCE: Byulleten' tekliniko-ekonomiche6koy informataiiq no- 7s 1965t 39-41 TOPIC TAGS: electrohydraulic effect, electric discharge, ~astipgcleaningt eleotro..;! hydraulic cleaning, foundry machinery ABSTRACIL. The electrohydraulic effect (electric discharge in a fluid) vaB used to i remove sand molds and ceramic inserts from complicated cast aluminum (AL-9)-ana i steel parts in the apparatus shown in Fig. 1 on the Enclosure. The ciiit_pa_~is i are placed in a water bath 2 under the electrodes 3. The discharge is produced by condenser 6 charged by high voltage supply 10 through rectifier 9 and controlled by .air gap 7. This method for cleaning castings (vrith subsequent washing and drying). was found to have certain advantages over other methodej and it permits complete recovery of the mold materials. The specifications and capacity of the installation are presented in detail. The magnetic properties of Ce, Pr, and Nd monochalcogenides are studied over a wide temperature range. The magnetic measurements at elevated temperatures show that the 4f electrons of metal ions are localized and their number is equal to that of the free tripositive metal ions. At low tempera- Card NRi AP7001979 tures all the compounds investigated exhibit magnetic ordering except for PrSe and PrTe. The possible types of magnetic ordering, and a mechanism for the exchange interaction, are discussed. The authors wish to thank Y. P. Irchin for useful discussions. The authors investigated the properties of Cc-S, CcSe, and CeTe at 4.2--77K. The investigated samples were synthesized f rc)m the elements by a method described by V. P. Zbuze et al. v. 6, 26"11, 19610. meas~u-e- :r,ents were riade of the lattice parameters, the electric conductivity -.iL the imagnetic susceptibility the temperature of the electromagnetic trfuisitioll, iinrl -'NC ex- perimental values of some constants used in the theory. 7he Curie-Weiss Ji.w wao fo.-I)d to hold for a.U the cumDounds above 35--40K. Deviations ob6erved below this ter'll),211-11- Iture are apparently due to the influence of the crystalline field. Diffcrencos b~- ACC NRz AP6033578 tween CeS and CeSe are attributed to the antiferronagnetism of the former and the weak: ferromagnetism of the latter. CeTe, on the other hand exhibits a transition from ferromagnetism to antiferromagnetism at temperatures below 10K, as manifest by the fact that its magnetic susceptibility remains constant below this temperature. Tenta- tive numerical values of the magnetization and taigle of rotation of the sublattic-s i~~ CeTe are obtained on the basis on this constancy. The authors thank G. A. Smolen;'MV for guidance and a discussion of the results, V. P.
