Title Experimental Trench Pine Cultivation in North
Armenia.
Orig Pub: Lesnoe kh-vo, 1956, No 7, 33-37
Abstract: For the pst 25 years the cultivation of 3
varieties of pine was
tested in Armenia: the Caucasian, Crimean and common. A
partial
investigation of these cultivations shoved that the best
growth
was manifested by the Crimean and common pines.
Recommendations
are made on the location of trenches and the methods of
preparing
the soils or. Armenian mountain slopes. Between the
trenches, in-
troduction of the smoke tree and "svidin" are
recommended.

ABSTRACT: Magnetic susceptibility was measured as a function of
temperature in NdS,
NdSe, NdTe and Nd2S3 to determine: 1) the effect of gradual
changes in the anion on
the behavior of the neodymium; 2) whether Nd shows another valence
besides three;
3) whether or not these compounds have ferromagnetic or
antiferromagnetic properties.
The experimental equipment and the method used are described in
detail. The measure-
ments were made in the 100-13000K range. Curves are given for the
relationship be-
tween temperature end inverse paramagnetic susceptibility for the
chalcogenides which
were studied. These curves are compared with theoretical curves
calculated from, Van
Vleck's formVla. Satisfactory agreement is found betwe n empirical
and theoretical
date for NOT at a screening number a = 34, and for NP at a = 35.

ABSTRACT: A detailed study vas made of the phosphorylation of
riboflavin by
orthophosphoric acid under various conditions. Increasing the
duration of the
phosphorylation vas found to result in the formation of
substantial amounts of
riboflavin-5'-diphosphate and polyphosphate esters of riboflavin.
The addition
of triethylemine during phosphorylation in pyridine medium
greatly inhibits the
phosphorylation reaction. The addition of a condensing agent,
trichloroacetonitrile,
resulted not only in the production of
riboflavin-51-monophosphate and riboflavin-5,-.
diphosphate, but also Wo new compoundep probably imido, esters of

ABSTRACT: The authors emphasize the necessity of appointing
in enterprises special workers who constantly hand-
le matters relating to the organization of produc-
tion. This idea has already been realized in many
installations, but to a full extent it will be car-
ried out only when the vuzes will train encrineers of
a corresponding specialty. The authors believe that
the engineer-economists, presently trained by the
L'vov Polytechnical Institute, could successfully fill
the position of engineers supervising the organiza-
tLon of production providing their knowledge on mat-
ters of technology and organization of production,
is somewhat increased.

TEXT: Spectrodensimetric measurements were carried out on
image elements of
negative and positive motion-picture frames, and the
surface concentrations of the
dyes, forming the images, were determined. Distribution
curves of the frames were
plotted for the minimum and maximum surface concentrations
and their intervals; on
the characteristic curves of the negative and positive
films the portions were
found that are utilized for forming the fields - the
brightest and the darkest for
a given dye. An analysis was carried out in the entire mass
of the investigated
negatives and positives as well as differentially on the
films and on the subject
groups of the photograph objects. It is established that
for color motion-picture
fiegatives and positives it is typical to utilize not only
the rectilinear but also
the curvilinear Dortions of the characteristic curves of
the elementary layers of

a film. It is made clear that the exposure conditions for
all aspects of motion-
-picture photographs are still insufficiently strictly
observed, in particular in
outdoor photographs; the exposures are chosen with
sufficient precisjon only for
images of the human face and for snow. It is admitted that
the photographic width
of the present day negative films is still insufficient.
Practically this width is
often reduced as a result of the fact that the spectral
composition of tile photo-
graph illumination does not correspond to the composition of
the light for which
the film balancing was carried out. The photographic width
of tile present day
positive color films is sufficient for reproduction of all
the important subject,
elements of an image. However, the often observed
utilization of the upper por-
tions of the characteristic curves of positive fillms
results in obtaining the
dark elements of the screen image either with a distortion
of the color tone or
as black. It may be admitted that the gradation distortions
practically play a
minor role in comparison with the color separation
distortions.

PURPOSE: This book may be of interest to engineers and
researchers interested in
improving the methods and machines used for resistance
welding.
COVERAGE: The material is based on work conducted at the
welding laboratory of
the Institute of Metallurgy, Academy of Sciences, USSR, for
the purpose of in-
vestigating thermal processes in resistance welding. A number
of the papers
present some results of theoretical and practical
investigation of the butt
welding of rods and the welding of crossed rods by the
electric resistance methc
Spot welding of sheet metal is also mentioned. Measuring and
recording proced-
ures are explained and illustrated. The majority of
experiments deal with heat-
ing, heat distribution, and the flow of current in the welded
part. It is
