any type of water including sea water.

ABSTRACT: The aim of the work described in this paper was to
establish the influence of natural and artificial ageing
and also of low-temperature treatment on the dimensional
changes of castings and to select suitable ageing regimeE
for this alloy (3.5-4.5% Al, 0.5-1.5% Cu)- It was
established that natural and artificial ageing cause
" reduction in the d4mensions o ; this alloy; low-
equaL -
temperature treatment (-22 to - 70 C) for four hours
impedes this process. Natural ageing of specimens for
durations of 450 days gives rise to a decrease in the
dimensions by 0.11 - 0.12%; the contraction is most
intensive during the first month and is practically
comp;eted after 45 days. Artificial ageing 4t 80 to
ipn C is completed after 6 hours and results in a
decrease of the dimensicns by 0.12 - 0.14%. Components
of high a,~.curacy should be aged naturally for 45 dtals

ABSTRACT: Investigations of the VNII NP on the speeding up of
chemical reactions made it possible to recommend a
scheme for multi-stage counter-current processes
which use the principle of contacting fine-grained
materials with gases and vapours (REF 8). Preliminary
experiments, carried out under laboratory conditions,
showed that it was possible to intensify the oxidation
regeneration of catalysts 9 to 12 times (Ref 8) and
cracking processes 2 to 3 times (Ref 5). The lay-out
of the pilot plant, used for catalytic cracking, is

0.6 tons of crudes per day. Diesel fuel and vacuum
gas--oil, prepared at MNPZ from Romashkinskaya ~etrolei=
mixtures and a synthetic aluminium silicate catalyst
as well as a microspherical natural clay catalyst were
used during these experiments. The activity index of
the synthetic catalyst was 30 to 32, that of the clay
catalyst 20 and the sizes of the grains 0.20 to 0.50 mm.
Results obtained during these experiments were compared
with data from catalytic (racking processes of the same
crudes on a pilot plant with a monosectional reactor,
when the identical cataly~~t with much finer granulation
was used (smaller than 0.1 mm) (Ref 10). The multi-
stage counter-current process gave much more satisfactor
results (Fig 2 and table 3). When using this method
coke formation was reduce6. This proved that the multi-
stage counter-current catalytic cracking process is
highly selective. When using this process in
conjunction with a clay-catalyst (activity equals 20),
for heavy crudes (table 2~, the rate of the reaction is

crudes, when using a syn;hetic catalyst, contains a
larger amount of unsaturated compounds than the product
from fluidized bed cr&ck:kng processes. The octane
number of the gasolines aquals 80 and can even reach 10(
The light gas-oils from the multi-stage counter-current
catalytic cracking process have cetane numbers between
30 and 31, whereas the gas-oils prepared by monosectione
cracking have cetane numbers of 18 to 26. The quality
of the gasoline can be improved by catalytic purificatic
over an aluminium silicate catalyst (Ref 10). The yield
of light products in thu one-stage catalytic cracking
process of heavy distil-.ates does not exceed 60 to 62%.
This yield can be improved by using a selective 2-stage
cracking process (up to 70%). The basic characteristics
of the multi-stage counter-current process of the VNII
were compared with th*se of a plant by GrozNII
Giprogrozneft and those of the GrozNII regenerator syste

current process are discussed and it is stressed that
high octane gasoline and gaseous olefins can be prepared
simultaneously. The experimental work was carried out
by G.S.Shnayder, V.A.Baiov, L.A.Rudnitskiy,
N.P.Yepifanova, Ye.V.Le.)ntlyeva and several
investigators of the VNI.` NP. There are 3 figures,

Abstract In the study of ascorbic acid metabolism (L) in 46
patients with a general alimentary exhaustion, its
decrease was noted in the blood (on the average 0.47 mg.%),
and its reduction in the urine to one-third; the I
content in the bile of patients, as well as in normal
people, consisted on the avorago of 3 - 8 m9-%- After
intravanoua or intraduodonal injection of 250 mg. of I,
a sharp rise of I concentration wa3 noted first in the
bile, then in the urine, with some insignificant increase
