4888. ROLE UF HISTAMINE IN THE MECHANISM OF
ALLERGIC REACTIONS
(Russian text) -Ado A.D. Moscow - PATOL.FIZIOL. I
EKSPE It. TERAP.
1957, 1/2 (12-IT~
Report on experimental data about the mutual
relationship of noradrenaline, acetyl-
tholine and histamine in development of
anaphylactic shock and allergic reactions
in various organs. On the basis of established
facts a hypothesis is put forward that
histamine is not a universal intermediary link -
an anaphylotoxin in the mechanism
of the various functional manifestations of
allergic reactions. This is indicated by
the fact that allergic reactions in many organs
(lingual vessels in the dog, small
intestine of guinea-pig, skeletal muscles of dog,
rabbit, hen and goose) are not
associated with histamine secretion. The
anti-histamine preparation diphenhydra-
mine does not alter the intensity of allergic
reactions in these organs. It was es-
tablished that in the early stages of development
(before the 5th-6th day) of serum
allergy the procenst involves sympatho-eruic
innervation mechanisms (noradrena-
line increases in the blood o1 dogs) and later on
the cholinergic ones. At a later
period, about 2-3 weeks from the start of
sensitization of the animals, allergen
causes histamine liberation in all organs; this is
the expression of the 2nd and less
specific phase in the development of the allergic
reaction - phase of alterations
with powerful histaminergic reactions (picture of
anaphylactic shock). A hypothesia
in put forward that in allergy there are multipie
ways in which disturbances of
innervation can occur. This is contrary to the
accepted view that there is a single
substrate and a singl,t internal mechanism in both
the generalized and local allergic
reactions. References: 21. Davydova - Moscow (S)

TITLE: Study of the allergenic properties of intermediate antigens

ABSTRACT: The allergenic properties of antigens forming at various
staE6s of virus propagation in the brain tissue of experimentally
infected white mice were studied in 97 guinea pigs by the method of
anapbylaxis and desensitization, applying a 5% fluid brain vaccine
against spring-summer tick-borne ancephelitis prepared 2 days and
41 daysi,
after infection. For sensitization, 0.3 ml were given
subcutaneously i
and the anaphylactic injection was given Intravenously after 28-33
days.~
Desensitization was given every 2 hours until complete arrest of the
reaction. The desensitizBrs were suspensions of normal brain, 2 or 4

3ays' vaccine, and culture-der ived fo:?malin inactivated
vaccine against
'Uhe above disease. Sensitization of -Vhe guinea pigs with a
suspension
Df healthy mouse brain tissue caused only weak anaphylactic
reaction
ipon subsequant introduction of the some suspension.
Sensitization with
vaccine from brain of mice without clinical siEns of the
discase caused
5tron,g anaphylactic reaction; so did vaccine from sick mice.
The
snaphylactic reaction in guinea pigs sensitized with the 2-day
vaccine
3ould be inhibited by prior two-fold desensitization with
either normal
orain suspension or vaccine, in contrast to 4-day vaccine where
such
desensitization did not inhibit anaphylactic reaction, due
apparently to
the large amount of intermediate antigens present in the 4-day
vaccine,
It may be concluded that intermediate antigens start appearing
on the
3econd day after infection and that they increase during virus
tultiplication in the mouse brain. "The fluid brain vaccine
against
'~ick-borne spring-summer encephalitis was prepared by E. N.
Levkovich".

TITLEs Coherent radiation of electrons in a synchrotron
PERIODICALt Atomnaya energiya, v. 9, no. 6, 196o, 455-46o
TEXTt An electron orbiting in a synchrotron will radiate
electromagnetic
waves with a frequency that is equal to a multiple of the
rotational
frequency. In a wave range comparable to the dimensions of the
cluster
this radiation will be coherent and a function of the orbital
distribu-
tions of the electrons. This is taken into account in the
equation of the
intensity for coherent radiation by introducing a form factor
F nm . The
authors have determined experimentally the coherent radiation
of the
electrons in a synchrotron at I - 10 cm (which corresponds to
the 50th
harmonic of the rotational frequency) for various electron
distributions
within the "separatrizes". Fig. I shows a block diagram of the
unit used.
A superheterodyne receiver was employed for the radiation
pickup. The
horn antenna (1) and the mixer (2) were located very close to
the
accelerator; the heterodyne (9) with a K-11 (K-11) klystron,
the inter-

mediate-frequency amplifier (3) and the stabilized supply
blocks (4) and
(8) had been arranged in a distance of about 3 m from the
magnet of the
accelerator in order to eliminate the effect of the
alternating magnetic
field. The intermediate-frequency amplifier was a six stage
tuned 5
amplifier having a 0-5 MG pass band and an amplification
factor of ,5.10
The intermediate frequency was chosen to 25 Me. After
detection the
signal was fed to the oscilloscope (5) of the type OK-17M
(OK-17M). The
signal frequency of the klystron was varied by changing the
potential at
the refleotor by means of the selsyns (6) and (7), The
results of these
investigations have been illustrated graphically,. FiF,. 2
shows the
dependence of the relative number of particles captured in
the accelera-
tion systew of the synchrotron, counted from the instant of
turning on
the h-f accelerating field. The optimum instant corresponds
to an
N-100. In I and III the electron distribution is nearly a
6-function
with respect to the amplitudes of the phase oscillations
and in 3ection
:_21
II it is nearly equal to f Y(2f The oscillograms

TEXT: The presence of large nur,-ibers of low ene.-fy :photons
interferes with exneriments at the high energy encl of the spectrum,
particularly w"'Ien Wilson cloud chambers or photoi~raphic plates are
being used. This low energy radiation can be absorbed in
materials of low atomic number for which the ratio of cross-
section for Compton effect to pair formation is sufficiently great.
The most favourable material for use as an absorber is LiH.
A filter was constructed i-.,hich consisted of a duralumin tube 2 m
long and 28 mm bore filled with LiH and the ends hermetically
scaled with duralumin caps 0.5 111:,' thick. By using crushed Lili
crystals a packing coefficient of 601"0 was obtained and the length
of the filter was then equal to 1.06 radiation lengths of
105 g/cM2. Analysis showed that the LiH contained 12'1o' UOH,
which was allowed for when calculating its transmission. The
