Disfokc-tsii i plastichnost' (Dislocations and Plastici-ty) Minsk,
Izd-vo.AN BSSR, 1961. 107 P. 3300 copies printed.
Ed. of Publishing House: S. Kholyavgkiy; Tech. Ed.: N. Siderko.
PURPOSE: This book is intended for physicists and engineers of
various field$ of specialization and for aspirants and senior
students at universities and schools of higher technical edu-
cation.
COVERAGE: The book presents the theory of plasticity based on
two new laws formulated by the author: the kinetics of dis-
locations and the plastic flow. Theselaws make it possible
1) to calculate the numberof dislocations and the rate of
plastic deformation as they depend on the stresses and their
duration, 2) to explain various phenomena and to determine

those properties of a solid which depend on the number of
dislooations. No pe 'rsonalities are mentioned. There are
57 references, mostly Soviet.

T M The authors consider theoretically the effect of great oscillation
amplitudes, exceeding the limit of crystal fatigued. -it is pessible.that fixed.
dislocations are collapsed with formation in their stead of microcraoks. Experi-
mental relations are.zpresented which connect the magnitude of applied external
stresses with number of cycles at which microoracks arise, as well as changes of
microhard-ness and magnetic induction with-number of cycle$. There is a good
agreement between the form~,of-the indicated relations and"theoretical predictions.

Here, a-denotes the stress, F, the plastic deformation, U-* the number of
active dislocations, and U the number of passive dislocations. The
mobile dislocations are found in energy minima. On a rise of-E, the
passive minima shift out of the minima, and in this case a, >O. With
growing deformations the barriers become larger due to an increase of
inserted dislocations, and in this)case al
