15-200G leaving heat exchangers was obtained by replacing

It is well known that rhinoscleroma affects mainly the nose and adjacent regions
of skin and mucosa. However. Pavlov described a case of a &houlder )esion, Schein
a case of a finger lesion. The author observed a female patient with'a widespread
lesion, it started 30 yr. before she saw the patient as a 'wart' in the region of the
left ankle-joint. Gradually the disease attacked vast regions of the extre mities,
abdomen, chest, face. In the affected areas were noticed- scars, indurations and
in some places branching keloid-like strands. On the borders of the scars were
seen foci of a rather firm bluish-red infiltration; here and there one could see
scales and scabs. In the region of the nose and upper lip were noticed: infiltration,
scarring atrophy and solitary papules of x:eddish colour, caused by stasis. The
author thinks that the case Is one of a peculiar kind of scleroma; in favour of this
conclusion are the findings of: (a) a chronic sclerosing process, (b) the histologi-
cal structure, characteristic of a granuloma wioh foam cells and hyaline bodies,
(c) Gram-negative encapsulated rods in the nasal mucona. On multiple inoculations
a culture was obtained only once; the germ was a bacillus similar to Bac. frisch.
The disease started during a stay in a district where the disease was endemic.

TEXT: An X-ray analysis was made of the rolling texture and the recrystalw:::-~ .1
lization structure of capacitor foil made of ABO (AVO) grade aluminum of 99.85%

ABSTRACT: The fact that the zero charge potential depends on the compo-
sition of the metal phase has at present been confirmed
in a number of papers (Refs 1-4). The number of objects,
however, by means of which this dependence could be proved
is very small. In the present work the authors have measured
the zero charge potential of some binary systems in order
to explain possible reasons for the differences between the
results obtained previously and to investigate new objects.
Amalgams of lead, copper, cadmium and zinc as well as copper
alloyed with mercury were chosen as test objects. For the
interpretation of the information obtained the method suggest-
ed by L. I. Antropov and collaborators (Refs 3, 4) was
employed. This was made for the reason that the linear de-
pendence between the logarithm of the molar fraction (lg N)

the measuring results in a form more convenient for reading.
The dependence of Tz.ch. on the composition of th+ead
amalgam was obtained fo~the first time. The measuring re-
sults Of Tz-ch. of the mercury-alloyed copper showed that
a linear dependence exists betreen F7,.ch* and lg N.g. The
measurements of T z.oh. of copper amalgam, on the other
does not occur.

the data ascertained by Frumkin and Servis, displaced by
80 - 90 millivolts towards negative values in the whole

potential of the metal contained in the amalgam. This is din

days. Ozone which is a more active oxidizer than
oxygen had no effect on the correlation of a and

process was noted when the plants were placed in

ABSTRACT: The more and more perfected electronographic method combined
with the progress made in microtome technique gives a suffioiently
detailed picture of chloroplast structure (Ref 3). At the be-
ginning a survey of publications is given (Refs 1, 3-7). It
seems to the authors that the problen of the strength of the
complex binding between chlorophyll and protein can be solved
by studying the spectra of the living leaves at a gradual heating
of the latter. If the chlorophyll molecules are associated with
proteins no chmges of the spectrum of the living leaf are
supposed to take place at temperatures at which distur-bances of
the protein structure are hardly to be expected. If the temper-
ature rise has reached the range of denaturation of the protein

of the compound protein-chlorophyll and the solution of the
latter in the lipoids can be supposed. If a free motion of the
chlorophyll molecules is assumed the spectral changes between
2o and 8oO are probably oompletely lacking orare only very un:-
important. Maize leaves which were illuminated during 2 hours
for lo4, and 3 days were chosen as experimental material as well
as onion leaves which grew under room conditions during 2 months.
The leaves were infiltrated with water and then investieated
by means of an SP - 4 spectrophotometer in the range of the red
maximum (650 - 690 mg) together with atiolated leaves at room
temperature and then at intervals of 3 - 40within the range of
45 - 800. Each heating lasted 15 minutes. Spectrophotometric
measurements were carried out after cooling. The results of the
qxperimenta are shown graphically in figure 1. As can be s!;:en,
heating'lead~ to a gradual shifting of the maximum into the
direction of shorter waves. The magnitude of shifting differed
with the individual objects; on the avera.-e it was from 4 - 6 mp~

more resistant against heating. It seems to the authors that this

APSTRACT: The attempt was made to answer the qiiestion as to whether
the chlorophyll molecule forms its more or less narrow
complex with albumin or with the lipoid by the denaturation
of leaves and by the variation of the spectrum possibly
accompanying this process. If tho chlorophyll mo)ecule is
able to move freely, there would be no spectral variation.
For the purpose of investigation, maize leaves were used
which were exposed to light for two hours, one day, 4 days,
and 8 days, as well as leaves of the onion plant, which had
been cultivated for tWD months under conditions such as
prevail in rooms in winter. First, the position of maxima
at room temperature was determined, after which spectra

vals of 3-4 . The position of the red main maximum in the
case of different times of exposure to light and at various
temperatures is shown in a table. Heating caused the maximum
to shift by 4-6 mp. A longer time of exposure made the
.spectra somewhat more sensitive to heating. This result is
considered to be a proof of the existence of an additional
tendency of chlorophyll to associate with albumin within a
narrow complex. Besides, a distribution scheme of the chloro-
phyll molecules in the pigment layer of chloroplast granules
is given and the various assumptions found in this connection
in publications are discussed, including those made by
Perner (Ref 3), Arnold (Ref 8), Rabinovich (Ref 6), and

intensitiess during long peridds of exposurep so as to quantitatively study the
capacity of chloroplasts to repeat photochlorophyll production and chlorophyll
storage during subsequent illumination by diffused light. In addition, the after-
effects of repeated powerful short flashes were studied. The experimental subjects
were 12-day old etiolated intersprouts of corn. The plants were exposed at 6-
second intervals to powerful (1010 erg/cm-sec) light sources having frequencies of

+ chlorophyll) from 42% (at I pulse) to 36% (at 100 pulses) of protochlorophyll.
It was determined that the transmuted protochlorophyll gave no evidence of destructive
action on the pigment system and that the process of protochlorophyll accumulation
continued normal'ly. The photosynthesizing system, as a whole and contiguous to the
chloroplast of plasma, was not damaged by the brief exposure to large amouhts of

ABSTRACT:- In the hollow of a Cu-plate moving during exposure with a rate of 1.4 mm/see
1 g of the sample containing up to 50% KC1 is placed. As upper electrode
a carbon rod sharpened to a truncated cone is used, The spectra are ex-
cited in the discharge of a low-voltage spark at a capacitance of 20.1A fa-
rad, a current intensity of 4 a and an operating gap of 2 mm. The stand-
ards and the samples are diluted in the ratio of 1 s 2 by means of NH4Cl
containing 1% of CdC12. The analysis is carried out, with allowance for
the background, by the line K 3446.7-Cd 3466.2 4; at concentrations of
KC1 < 5% the lines K 4047.2-Cd 3610.5 A are employed. The error of ana-
lysis is -~ 7%. Similarly the analysis of the soluble part of K-fertili-
zers is carried out. For this purpose strips of filter paper are soaked
in a solution containing together up to 5% KC1 and NaCl and are fastened

~ZXT: The object of this work was to amply fl,-.-,-,e photor-etrey
to analyzinG natural X deposits. The method, which consisted of spray-
irg the aqueous solutions into an air-acetylene flame and analyzin,-
the latter with the c + -4 (SP-4) s pee tropho tone ter, is described and
illustrated in some detail. X-766 mi.L and Na-569 mk~, lires were observ-
ed. Standards containing 16, NaCl and KCI/220 ril "[20 were prepared, YCI
varyinL; from 0.5 to 100 % of the total salts, and were used to Plot
calibration line intensity concentration curves. It was found that
