The prenent paper describes solution of a similar problem for zirconium halides. The authors used curves of the reduced induction coefficients plotted as a function of the atomic weight of the central atom; these curves were constructed separately for fluorides, chlorides, bromides and iodides. The interai=ic distances were deteMined, as in Ref 1, by plotting the dependence of these distances as a function of the atomic number Z of the Paripheral atom; the curve for zirconium halides was drawn above the SnX4 curve through a poiiat r = 2.33 X which represents the Zr-Ol interatomic distunce in ZrC14. The interatomic distances r found in this way are listed in Table 1. Table 2 gives the calculated induction coefficients for ZrG14, ZrBr4 and Zri - The normal vibrational frequencies of the four halides ZrG14, IrBr4, ZrI4 ca rd 1/2 and ZrF4; found using the coefficients of Table 2 and equations given FreRpencies of Normal Vibrations of Zircoaiwa Halides SOV51-7-2-27/34 earlier (Ref 1) are listed in Table 3. For ZrF4 the method used requires extrapolation of the induction coefficients and, therefore, it gives only the limits between 'which lie the nnmal vibrational frequencies it and 94, of this compound. The errors in the calculated frequencies of ZrC14, ZrBr4 and ZrI4 are estimated to be Ap, = t20, L~V2 = t-10, &~ = t30 and A)h = �10 cm-1. The raothod described i%us checked by calculating the normal vibrational frequancies of SiC14, SiBr4: and S24 (see Table 4; for data on SIG14). The calculated and experimental values of the 5014 frequencies were found to igrea within 1-7 am-1, except for V3 where the difference vms 25 cm-1. In the oRse of zirconium halides the calculated frequency V, = 382 cm-1 for ZnCI4, alw agrees wall with the experimental value of 383 cm-1.
