ABSTRACT: In continuation of previous papers (Ivanov, Ref 2, as well
as Refs 5,6) information is given here on investigations
of water samples from the middle part of the eastern coastal
strip of the Caspian Sea. Filters Nr 2 (35 mm diameter, and
a pore diameter of 50 were used for the filtration of the
samples. The auapenled matter found in the water was divided
into three groups: 1)lLineral carbonaceous suspensions: They
occur in the zone of highest suspension concentration in the
coastal strip. Mainly pelitic carbonate with small admixtures
of lens-shap6d and rhombic granules and granules of calcite
fragments were found. 2) Carbonaceous mineral suRpensions:
smallest mica flakes, subrounded granules of quartz and feld-
spar, single granules of garnet, zircon, mineral ores and

fragments and in the form of rhombohedra. Sporadically
also frz~igctents of lime algae an well as cells of diatoms
(coscinadiscus) were found. 3) Biogenous-mineral-carbonaceous
aunpensions: These can mainly be found in areas of submerged
slopes and are composed of pelitomorphous carbonate, shell
fragments, carbonate granules, traces of mica, quartz,
feldspar and other elements. The biogenous component consists
of large detrital pieces, fragmental lime algae, plankton
renainn# apiculesp diatoms and single specimens o%' Coscino-
diactis. There tire 4 figurea and 6 references, which are

AB SVUC T i The problem of the influence exercised by the material mentioned
in the title on the seaiment formation cf the Caspian Sea has
hitherto not been solved. This material itself is not ~,r~+
completely investigated (Rafs 1.2.4,5 for the nortl~ CaspianSea).
The collection of this material was organized on the coast and
on the ship in order to investigate it on the east coast. For
this purpose two otject carriers on which glycerin was spread
were fired at the peak of a wind vane a,-ainst the wind, then
taken away, the surfacce on -AAch glycerin was spread rere put
together and then exa=ined under the microscope. Table I shows
the quantitative computation of all particles in 10 fields of
Tision related to I cm2 . Then particles of different size were
separated. No rilled particles were found, the"half-rolled" and
the orCanic particles were separately determined. The results
