Doklady, v. 172, no. 1., 1967, 65-68 TOPIC TAGS: ion scatterirq~,, secondary e.-Assion, angular distribution, Mstal sur- face, spectral distribution ABSTRACT: To check on the result of theoretical calculations by the authors (Izv. ALI UzSSR, ser. fiz.-matem. nauk no. 3, 41, 1966 and earlier papers), the authors investigated the angular de.pendence of the coefficient of seconda'7 Ion emission and the energy distribution of secondary, alkali ions scattered by single crystals of W and Ido. The apparatus was described elsewhere (Izv. AN UzSSR ser. fiz.-matem. nauk no. 4, 20, 1964) but was modified to increase the resolution. The results show that the spectrum contains, besi&es the peak of ions singly scattered 11"y individual atoms of the target, also additional peaks in the high energy region of the spectrum) cor- responding to doubly scattered ions by different crystallographic plazies. Similar secondary peaks are observed alzo for the energy distributions of the secondary ions. The ion-scattering coefficient Is higher for single crystals than for polyerystals C"a r d1/2 UDC., 537-334.8 at all, scattering angles., and shows a faster growth, vith increasing angle. It has a minirmim near 45% It also decreases with increasing ion energy. The variation of the scattering coefficient is interpreted from the point of view of the contributionsi made by various crystal1ographic planes. Orig. art. has: 4 figures and 2 formulas. VIK The target was encompassed ty a cylindrical collector shielded against parasitic currents. Between target and collector wall a mo,rRble probe was installed, for measuring the secondary-ion intensities. The targets were purified by rapid heating up to 24000K, the measurements were made at Card '/3 310 P166/61/000/006/007/010 The angular distribution of alkaline ... B102/B138 135500K and a pressure of (2-3)10-6 mm Hg, The target was bombarded by Na ions with energies betwoen 300 and 1700 ev. The number of scattered ions was found to be inversel.y proportional to the ion energy, and the angular distribution was independent of energy. Angular distributions of the intensity of scattered ions did not depend on target temperature (300 - 15000K), Angula:r dititribution was also almost independent of the angle of incidenoe of the primary ion beam. The coefficient of secondary emission increased with the angle of incidence 9. If the mass m 2 of the bombarding ion is less than that (ml) of the target atom, the angular distribution of the scattered ions will be almost a cosine-6 ciirve.. The cosine-0 shaped distribution is independent of the angle of incidence. M, A, Yeremeyev and M. V. Apparatus and measuring methods have been described by Arifov et al. (Izv. AN UzSSR, Ser. fiz.-mat. nauk, 6, 57, (iq6i)). in order to retain evaporated ions from the collector, a voltage of I v was applied between target and colloctor. The currents of scattered ions were measured with a movable probe. For angles of .incidence between 00 (normal) and a certain limiting angle the currents measured were weak and the distribution was cosine-shaped. The solid angle into which this emission taken place increases with I, but the maximum value of 0 remains independent of J) at about 500 for Mo (atomic mass m,) bombarded by Cs+ (ion mass m 2); is also independent of the energy of the bombarding ions. The ions with the cosine distribution have only few ev, the ions of the othex group have a maximum energy of 75 ev for 500 ev Cs ions. The higher the energy of the primary particles, the fewer secondary ions are scattered in the direction of P. The nu)n'.:)er of ions with the cosine distribution does not depend on the energy of ,,,he bombarding ions, but decreases slightly when the time of action of the primary ion current on the target is reduced. The-angular distribuzionii of the secondary ions in the bombardment of a nickel target with Cs+ icons are similar to the distributions described above. The ions with the. angular distribution coa 0 are scattered by single atoma or atomic systems, whose mass is greater than the mass of the bombarding particles. The ions propagating only within a certain solid angle around P with the enerKy E > 12coe2p are scattered by elastic (ml-m2)/"2 collisions with single azoms of 'the target. There are 4 figures. Azerb. n.-i. stroit. materialov i sooruzheniy, 1955, 11r 5, pp 8-17. ABSTRACT: Coquina-limestones on the Apsheron Peninsula having a strength in the dry state of 70 to 130 k~vcm6p when used as coarse aggregate, may produce pi,,zrate with a strength on the order of 200-250 kg/cm4, To do this, compaction of the concrete with a vibrator is,a nece- sary procedures inasmuch as it achieves the greatest effect and the greatest economy of cement. The fine limestone material that is given off during the Card 1/2 mechanical crushing of 'Pieces of building stone and 15-57-1-693 High-Resistance Concrete From Coquina -Limestone Rubblo (Cont. ) during preparation of the rabble, in their properties and quiality, may completely repla-ce the ordinary normal sands as the fine con- stituents of concrete. In manufacturing concrete with high strength, the use of' the fines leads to a somewhat lower expendit:ure of cement. Card 2/2 V. P. Ye.
