-ABSTRACT: The axial compression of thin elastic cylindria shells is investigated
under critical loading with special emphasis on possible upper and lower critical load
limits. The concept is illu-etrated by calculating the critical load on two straight
rigid links connected by an elastic hinge and simply supported at their lower ends.

embryos were investigated. The ovaries are stipplied Nvith blood from the internal
spermatic and uterine arteries. The latter aresubdivided into 2 branch". (tile main
and the collateral) on the lateral surface of the uterus. 'rite main branch is connect-
cd with tile ovarian artery, while the collateral passes to the ovarian end of the
uterine tube and supplies it. In certain cases the ovarian artery is subdivided into
2 branches, one of which 1 -6 ramifications in the form or a brush and enters
gives 5
the tubular end of the ovary, while the main trunk passes near to tile straight edge
of the ovary. and anastomoses with the ovarian branch of the utrrinc artery. The
ovarian artery may subdivide into 3 branchm, 2 of which enter the ovary, while
Ilit 3rd ramifies in the broad ligament. The number of arterial branches entering
the ovary shows certain variations in dependence to age. There are comparatively
few branches (2o-uB) in embryos. Their number increases and reaches 4o a! tile
age of2o. At the age of from 20 to 30 the number of branches reaches the maximal
number (5o-6o) and then gradually decreases to 20-3o branches in old age.
