Abstract : The sand deposits on the shores of Seven Island are poor in N, P, and K, are weakly carbonated and characterized by neutral or weakly alkaline reaction. According to the findings of vegetational research, the grass harvest on these deposits van considerably augmented after nitro- genous fertilizers were used. It is possible to plant arboreal cultures on the sands. Card 1/1 ARANTAY. V.L. Zffect of the carbonatq content of soils an the assimilation of phosphorus by plants. Report No.l. Dokl. AN Arm. "Now Data on the Geology of the Mesozoic Deposits in the Chulymo-Yenisey Basinj," Tr. Tomakogo un-ta., ser., geol., 124, 67-96, 1953 The author presents the data of his geological investigations and also interprets the data in the literature on the geology of the mesozoic deposits in the Chulymo-Yenisey Basin. Among the upper Jurassic deposits is distinguished a new stratigraphic entity, the Kenchug series (Kamehug- skaya avita). The author considers the history of development and makes more precise the boundaries of the Chulyro-Yenisey foothill depression as an independent geological structure of West Siberia. Opinions varied between upper devonian, lower carboniferous or the transition layers between the latteri In 1953 the Nazarov depression (the most northerly situated one of the herzynic Minusinsk intermountain depressions) the second author discovered fossil plants whioh turned out to be very instructive for determining the age of the series. The layers with fossil plants were situated in about the central part of the aeries which according to drillings does not exesd a thick- nose of 100-120 m. It has 4 horizons: 1. a green dolomite horizon, which lies on red ooloured upper devonian (3-4 m), 2. lower packet of grayish-yellow, massive obliquely stratified limestones (20- Card 1/4 -30 m)i 3- izykahule-fish-horizon containing fiah-romains, 4- upper On the Age of the Bystriansk Series (South-East 2MIJ;W of West-Siberia), on the Occasionof the Discovera, of Cyclostigma kiltorense Haughton. 2D-Z-05/67 lower carboniferous is fixed; If the correctness of the age of the lower carboniferous of the Bystryansk aeries is recognized in the base ofits fish fauna the fossil plants cannot be classified as the lowest layer of the lower carboniferous. This is confirmed by the survival of numerous upper devonian sorts of plants until the By- stryansk-epoch without any perceptible morphological modifications. This is also valid for Cyclostoma kiltorkense, a characteristic kind of the upper devonian. The sediments of tht-. Bystrynek series deserve a special name as the "bear-stage" of Heer is not applica- ble to them. The stratotype of the latter turned out to be upper devonian to 3udge from fauna and flora-In the Bystransk-epoch a complete revival of the fish-fauna took place whereas the revival of the flora towards Kulm-forms at that time had only Just begun. So fLr it was assumed that the flora in its development always pre- ceded that of the fauna. Here matters obviouslylarainverted. Fixing a now link in the development of the devonian-carbonifei.-ous-florao will doubtlessly be very important for deciphering many disputed placesof discovery of fossil plants. The boundary between the Upper De- vonian and the Lower Carboniferous in the Minusinsk depressions is therefore to be drawn within the Bystryanskaya suite, according to the change of the flora. By this means, the notations: Bystryanskaya Mass I and 11 of the first investigators are re-astablinhed. The common occurrence of Cyclostigma and Lepidodendron in the Samokhvallskaya suite remained puzzling until recently and prevented an accurate age determination of this suite (Refs 8,10,20,21). The new discoveries of the authors, including the plant species mentioned in the title removed this obstacle: in reality, neither Lepidodendron nor Cyclostigma have been found here. The plant that was indentified by earlier investigators as Lepidodendron, is in the opinion of the authors Sublepido- dendron (Nath.) Hirmer and belongs to another species of (Ref 18). Many errors in identification originate in the different state of preservation of the birk of the very same plant species. Thus, L.hirmeri has several Card 2/3 synonyms (Refs 3,4,13,14)(Ref 20). Abs. 7B433 REF SOURCE: Tr. Tallinsk. politekhn. in-ta, v. A, no. 222, 1965, 3-13 TOPIC TAGS: ship)motion stability, MeA* 27. Idy is A TRACT: A a dy is de of the stability of a ship's motion in a disturbance under a stationariy regime of motion. The disturbance is assumed to be uniform. The effect of the disturbance on the ship's trim is not taken into account. The ship is assumed to be symmetrical relative to the middle frame. In deriving a stability equation for a ship maintaining a course, the following conditions are assumed: the velocity of the ship is constant and the angle of drift is small. An equation for longitudinal stability is derived on the assumption that the magnitude of resistance owing is proportional to the square of the ship's velocity. By using Gurvits' 1/3 NRo AR6033806 theorem and solv'Ing a differential equation for the stability of a vessel maintaining a course, conditions are obtained for the vessel's stability under stationary condi- tions of motion and a concurrent disturbance. The condition of stable equilibrium, symmetrical relative to the middle frame of a ship on a following wave is obtained from a differential equation under the assumption that the coefficients in all its terms are positive. A correlation is obtained between the Froude number and the relationship betWeen wave length and the ship's length and angle of direction under conditions of stationary motion and following waves. Results. are presented of a computation of the roots of a characteristic equation for stability in maintaining course for a tanker in quiet weather and unstable in maintaining its course, as well as for the directional (course) stability of the trawler "Krasnogvarde-ysk. " Results of the computation show that the stationary motion of a vessel on a following wave will be asymptotically stable if three conditions for stability are fulfilled: the first two relate to stability in maintaining a course and may be reduced, first, to the requirement that the real part of all three roots of the characteristic equation be negative in sign, and second, to the requirement that the control wheel be readjusted at a specific angle; third condition concerns the stability of longitudinal displacement and' depending on wave and vessel parameters, assumes that the * center of gravity,of the vessel lies either within the trough or the crest of the wave. 2/3 !-ACC NRI AR6033806 On the basis of.the computations and their analysis, a conclusion is drawn to'the effect that a vedsel dynamically stable in calm water may, tinder disturbed c9ndi- tions, lose its 4tability, and conversely, a vessel unstable in calm water may in some cases be found to be stable in disturbed waters.
