TITLE: On the Conditions of Stability and Instability in Linear Systems With Two Degrees of Freedom (Ob usloviyakh ustoychivosti i neustoichivosti lineynykh sistern s dvumya stepenyami svobody) PERIODICAL: Uch. zap. Gor1kovsk. un-t, 1957, Vol 35, pp 202-219 ABSTRACT: By way of a critical analysis of Rocard's statements (Rocard, J.,Dynamique ginerale des vibrations. Paris, 1948), self-exciting conditions in linear systems with two degrees of freedom are presented. The forces applied to the system are subdivided into conservative, dissipative, and active. Active forces are forces with negative dissipation and directional coupling. Distinction between stable and unstable ranges is per- formed by constructing Vyshnegradskiy's diagram. The results show that instability may arise from negative dissipation or the presence of an inverse coupling. The conditions of stability and instability of systems close to a linear conservative condition were given special attention. It is shown that the main cause of Card 1/2 instability is the magnitude of the couplings (Mandellshtam, L. I., "An automatic five-are unit for hard facing ~A' tlrauk. llug.~;." Is highest at the indiffercrit temperature; at a lower temperature the 13NIII is as high as or lower than thnt o! untreated rats. With the aid of urethan (which was demonstrated to prevent hyper- thermia-induced hypermetabolism in normal rats) it is shown that a part of the hypermetabolism of thyroxine -intoxicated rats at the indifferent temperature is caused by the same mechanism as the increased metabolism of normal rats placed in high environmental temperatures Inducing hyperthermia. During aminothiazol treatment the metabolism of thyroxine treated rats Is significantly lower than the minimum value usually observed. Aminothiazol is knowu to depress metAolism acting through the central nervous system. It is suggested therefore that the minimal oxygen consumption found at low temperatures is at least partly 0 result of ref-W.-ition by the CNS. oft a the inetmWls, a ,,c o Ihjs lm,~ tale Q t".t. The revaluation was to be as of 30 September 1963 and the results forwarded to the Public Accounting Servico no later than 15 November 1963. Almost all the terms and concepts used by the authors are taken from V. M. Glushkov's book (Sintez tsifrovykh avtomatov. The pkogram. system which solves this problem (a small automation systei., for the projcetion of digital automaton arrange- ments) Is described In detail.
