Acta physiologica, v. 26, no. 1-2, 1965, 9- TOPIC TAGS: conditioned reflex, cat, brain, neurophysiology, electrophysiology ABSTRACT: The basic neural mechanisms of motivation have boon inveStigated in cats by electric stimulation of diencephalic and me sencephalic structures in a dual conditional reflex environment. Two elementary and antagonistic mechanisms were demonstrated behind the apparently homogeneous motivational effects elicited by the stimulations, termed pull and push effects, and they were shown to be interconnected inseparably. The possible neural organization responsible for the complex inter- relationships of the two motivational sub-systems were discussed on the basis of analysis of several experimental facts. It is pointed out that both the pull and push effects can organize conditional connections corresponding to their nature, with external stimuli active at the moment of their existence. An attempt has been made at a physiological interpretation of Hullts drive reduction hypothesis. The importance of the arrest reaction in the fcrmtion of instrumental conditioned reactions is pointed out. Orig. art. has: 11 figures. [Orig. art. in Eng.) Acta physiologica, v. 26, no.1-2, 1965, 149-155 TOPIC TAGS: brain, electrophysiology, neurophysiology ABSTRACT: The role of midline thaleii1c structures in the conditioning process has been studied using the recruiting potential as an indicator in three different ways. 1. Recruiting responses were elicited in two psychological opposite situations of avoidance conditioning in order to evaluate the influence of different environmental factors on the potential mechanism. 2. Low frequency stimulation of the centrum medianum, reuniens and ventralis anterior nerves was used as a conditioned signal and in variations in the morphology of the potentials accompanying the development of conditi(.,nim-, were analy-zed. 3. Stimulatj()ns were applied to activate a pre- established avoidance or approach eonditioned reaction, and the potential configura- tions at which activation was reached were compared with potential configurations not reaching tile threshold of activation. The observations suggested that, despite their common characteristics, different parts of the diffuse thalamic projection system repregent different mechanisms. A double functional representation of the region of th- centrwn medianwii and its possible role in the conditioning process 18 1- discussed. Orig. art. has; 8 figures, [Orig. art. in Eng.) C'urd .1/1 Phosphorites in Northern and Central Dalmatift deposits have been exhaused and further prospecting in this area has not given any positive results, In Razvodo in Northern Dalmatia two deposits of phosphorite similar to the Ervenik type were found. From one deposit about 3--4 wagons of yellow phosphorite were exploited arid with il~ the deposit was exhausted. The ather deposit was practically of no value. At OstropAicix, also in lNorthern Dalmatia, about 2-3 waqons of yellow arid red phosphorite were found but not exploited. In Central I)al-,:,.atia scatters! denosits Of phosphorite exist, the main one being at Zvec'onje where the phosphorite appears in rounded formations th,~ size of a potato, but sometimes in lumps of 10 - 25 k- in weight. This phosphorite is not of the type uqually found in Furo- pean and other deposits but is mixed with humus and terra rosa. These deposits in Central Dalmatia amount to approx- imately 150 tons which is still negligible. With regard to the character of the Dalmatian deposits the author divides them into two types, i.e. the 'Ervenik and "Nej.--inja typog and compares them with the deposits found in ~~,ur,)pe, Africa and the Antilles. Concerning the orifin of primary na-.ural Card 3/5 phosphorites the theory generally accepted in the past was Phosphorites in Northern and Central Dalmatia Y!JI; 12-~,?-i -~/22 that they were of organic oripin. The theor.,,- P~enerail,~ accepted today is that of A.V. 'Fozakov, i.e. that they re- sulted from chemicnl sedimentation or pl,o:iphorAc ticid in sea water. The author describes this sedimentEtion prDcess and points to the fact that the Dalmatian deposits by their structure and appearance do not compare with ge,limoritary phosphorites in other parts of the 'Norld. lie dismisses, therefore, the theory that Dalmatian phosphorites are of primary oriFin and by poititing to thoir structure and oom- position, establishes the fact that they oririnnti~ from con- solidated excrements of bats and bears living-,, on rocks. As such their exploitation for industrial purposes would be unprofitable and iineconomical. Class 42, No. 180828 SOURCE: Izobreteniya, promyshlennyye obraztsy, tovarnyye znaki, no. 8, 1966, 89-90 TOPIC TAGSi stereoscopic display system, stereoscopic photography, stereoscopic projector, image projection 1ABSTRACT: This Author Certificate presents a method for preparing large graphio.,j Irepresentations, such as drawings and sketches, for miri-or-stercoscopic showin . The method involves drawing three-dimensional objects by central projection with the base equal to the average distance between human eyes. These representations are then i viewed with the help of a mirror. To improve the stereoscopic effect, the object ~being presented is projected (while being drawn) along the main axis of vision, while during the showing the completed representation is turned with its face toward the left eye and is placed at an angle to the main axis of vision. TITLE: Thermophysical properties of nickel-chromium-iron alloys SOURCE: Teplofizika vy*sokikh temperatur, v. 1, no. 1, 1963, 12-16 TOPIC TAGS: thermophysical property, nickel chromium iron alloy, nickel alloy, heat conductivity, resistivity, Lorentz-number. ther- mal expansion, heat capacity, thermal diffusivity, nickel alloy den- sity, iron, nickel, chromium, nickel alloy thermophysical property, nickel alloy heat conductivity, nickel alloy resistivity, nickel alloy thermal expansion ABSTRACT: An all-inclusive experimental investigation is reported, in the temperature interval 20--900C, of the thermophysical proper- ties of the alloys OKhl6,\T'-.GV3T (EI-855), 01(h20NGOB and OlCh2lN76T Card 1/3 ACCESSION NR: AP4000396 (EI-435), which are all of the nickel-chrome, iron group. The re- ports published'to date contain only data on the physical proper- ties of individual alloys of this type. The research consisted of measuring thermal expansion, specific hea--, thermal conductivity, electric resistivity, and the Lorentz.nuri )er of the alloys. It can be concluded on the basis of these invest:,gations and on the basis of,investigations Of SiM4 lar alloys (B. G. Lifshitz, Fiz. Metallov i Metallovedeniye, v. 10, No. 1, 1960) that in the temperature in- terval 400--600C two types of structural transformations occur during the heating of hardened alloys of nickel-chrome, iron: in the inter- val 400--500C low-temperature aging, the so-called formation of the K.state, and above 500C the precipitation of the second phase is predominant. The first process is characterized by an increase in the electric resistivity and a decrease in the specific volume, while the second is accompanied by a decrease in electric resistiv- ity, an increase in 'Che specific volume, and absorption of heat.
