The Morphology of the Receptors of the Dura Mater. 20-114-6-47/54 close to the bundle of collagen fibers (oimilar to those in references 12-15). Besides, the author in thc course of the small nerve trunks detected receptors which have their origin at a sensible fiber of the same triink. They ramify in the perineural tissue and spin round the trunk with their termin- als. They may be compared to the seiisory endings (reference 16)1 their afferent nature was dete=ined (reference 17). The following conclusions are to be drawn from the results: All sections of the durs, mater are equipped with receptive nerve- -apparatus of the type of non-incapsulated nerve endingo witb a different degree of arborization. 2. The nerve endings detected in the dura mater are to be considered mechanore- ceptors. It may be considered an established fact that the main task of these apparatus is the signalization of the degree of expansion of the corresponding organs to the central nervous sYstem- 3. The dura mater of the brain thanks to a wealth of interoceptive apparatus represents an extensive reflexogenic zone which probably has i1o play an essential part in the vital action of the organism. Moscow, 1063, 185-188 TOPIC TAGS: lysogenic bacteria, biological sensor, radiation detector, bacteriophage, phage, vibration, irradiation I Vostok 111, Vostok IV ABSTRACT: jyeogenic bacteria, E. coU K-12 W, was carried on spaceships Card 1/3 ACCESSION NR: AT4042681 Vostok III and Vostok IV as a biological sensor. The ndvantages of lyrogenic bacteria as biological sensors stem not only from their extreme sensitivity to various types of radiation. but also fi-om the fact that inducet! changes are directly proportional to the dose of irradiation. In addition. E. col- was sub- jected to the combined effects of radiation and vibration in ground experiments. Vibration war, produced by means of a vibrator with frequencies of 35, 70, and 700 cps. an amplitude ranging from 0. 4 to 0, 005 rnm with a load equal to 10 g, for periods of 15, 30, and 60 min. CoGO in doses of 100 r at a rate of 21 r per min served as a source of radiation. Lysogenic bacteria carried on space- ships Vostok III and Vostok IV revealed induction of genetic changes produced by space-flight factors which was indicated by a significant increase in the nun-ilber of phage particles. The induced effect war, more pronounced on Vostok III than on Vostok IV. Forty-eight hours after its return to earth, the bacte ria carried by Vostok III had produced 4. 6 times as many phage particles as controls which had remained on earth. Ground experiments with vibration indicate that the combined vibration and gamma irradiation, followed by a second exposure to vibration, double the biological effectiveness of gamma rays. Cord 2/3 ACCESSION NR: AT4042681 "owcver, when the Lacteria is subjected to only a single dose of"vibration Ilow-:,., irradation, *,here is no increase in the number of phagcp "o articles as compared '.0 samples which were exposed to irradiation alone. This fact indlcaw5 under space flight c ;~.,",tions vibration sensitizes the lysogenic bactcr;a to the effect of ionizing radiation. This as yet hypothetical explan- ation should be substantiated by additional experiments. Doses with a previously established non- toxic effect (0. 0574 concentration) were used. T~e desired chemical preparation was added to a bacterial culture diluted in a physiological medium. . Experimental and control samples were subjected to x-ray .irradiation (dose, 15, 000 r) and then cultured on agar. The number of -induced phage partl*clea in Irradiated samples with and without each prep&- ,ration was then compi~eq. 2-Mercaptopropylamine hydrochloride was Card 1/2 L 14295-66 AX NR: AT6003878 ,most effective: cultures treated with It produced 119 times fewer phage particles than control samples. Other good inhibitors of induced phage Jormation were 2- (gamma- aminopropyl) disulfide dihydrobromide, sodium die'thyldithiocarbam ate and ammonium dithiocarbarnate, which reduced phage production 76. 3-70. 1 times. Less effective were live salts of 8 mercaptoethylamine tested: 2-mercaptoethylamine hydrobromide, 2- inercaptoethylamine disulfide hydrochloride, 2-mercaptoethylamine hvdrqiodide, and 2-mercaptoethylamine hydrochloride. The experimental data show the essential connection between the chemical structure of the tested preparations and their nbility to block the development of infectious phage. The antigenetic effect ' 6 -mercapto- ethylamine preparations is determined by their acid radicals as well as by their base. It may be possible to obtain even more effective preparationsi of this compound by forming salts with other acids. The failure of :3- 8 -aminoethylisothiuronium hydrobromide to produce an antigenetic effect Is especially interesting because in previous experiments this com- pound decreased th.e. death. rate of animals subjected to a lethal radiation dose by 70-100% Ori art. has: 1 table. Tne same circulation forms cause precipitation anomalies in adjacent regions as well. The same resultant precipitation is ob- served in the La1ce ladoga, area, for example. The correlations derived Card lA__ 1. UDC:__551 -5Q9~329 ACC NR, A27005465 10 in this paper also are applicable to precipitation forecasts *1 r that area. The importance of the paper is not the local 'application of the described correlation (circulation-precipitation) mothod, but the fact that it can be used for other regions and for other meteorological elo- rzents, especially mean monthly and mean seasonal air temperatures and cortain hydrological characteristics, such as annual and semiannual ,..runoff, datos of freezing and breaking up of rivers and lakese Orig. art.*has: 3 figures.
