Orig Pub Sb. tr. Kurskiy med. in-t, 1956, VYP- 11, 335-337
Abstrict Rabbits poisoned with CC14, P or HgC12 were immunized by
a warm vaccine of paracolon bacilli &-nd B. paratyphosus B.
Chronic CM4 or P poisoning depressed antibody synthesis
and agglutinin formation. There was an increase in gamma
globulins. In HgCl2 poisoning antibody synthesis was not
affected. CC14 caused mainly an involvement of the liver's
R.E. system, whereas HgCl2 effected extrahepatic tissues.
The liver's synthesis of albumin has no direct relation-
ship with antibody formtion. Depression of agglutinin

TITLE: Application of Achievements in Chemistry to the
Repair of Aviation Materiel (Dostizheniya khimii--
v praktiku remonta aviatsionnoy takhniki).
PERIODICAL: Vestnik vozdushnogo flota, 1958, Vol 41, Nr 9,
pp 64-69 (USSR)
ABSTRACT: The authors describe.some instances of using physico-
chemical processes in the repair of aviation materiel. In Air
Forco establishments electroplating has been used for many
years to repair parts ani units, and to produce anticorrosion
coatings. The chemical nickel-plating method for aircraft
parts, and the ultrasonic electroplating method for aluminw
alloys have been proposed. Recently, anodic-mechanical
methods of metal machining have become widely used. An etch-
ing method, replacing grinding, has been developed; complexly

Some good quality parts have been made from
hydraulically com-
pressed powders. Several perchlorovinyl varnishes and
enamels
are now, uaed as anticorrosion coatings for skins of
aircraft fly-
ing at ultrasonic speeds or close to it. Infrared lamps
are now
used to dry these and other coatings in the open, after
painting.
The new methods provided various advantages, e.g., they
brought
savings in materials, expenses,'labor and time. Among
improve-
ments now being developed in laboratories and industrial
enter-
prises are: the use of molybdenum disulfide to lubricate
bear-
ings and gear transmissions which operate under sharp
temperature
changes (minus 500 to plus 4000 C), use of a carbon
dioxide st
stream to cut special steels, and the use of
public-network gas
for metal. cutting.

ABSTRACT:1normous deposits of coal are available In Western
Siberia.
For producing coke from this coal it is necessary to add
lean coal, since without such addition the produced coke is
full of cracks. As a result of this the various research
institutes controlled by the Ferrous-Metallurgy Ministry
have proposed the use of coking charges containing up to
40 of coal from the Kuzbas. In this paper attempts are
described of obtaining coke directly from the Irkutsk-
Cheremkhov coal using as an admixture semicoke produced from
the same coal. Laboratory tests by IGI during recent years
established the possibillty of obtaining metallurgical coke
from coal of this origin; in coking charges of this coal
1/2 with an addition of 15%, semicoke a strong coke was
obtained
which had high quality indices during tests in a drum

ABSTRACT3 For the purpose of rationalizing the teachinS process,
the
above named authors have made the attempt to utilize a maximum
of eneralizations in lectures on metal-cutting machine tools.
The trial proved successful. New, methodical and scientific
principles for preparing lectures 1~ermit the study of machine
tools according to a unified plan. The structural analysis -
the basis of a course - defines the structure of every lecture.
Visual aide are not excluded, but they serve only as auxili-

TITLEs Space Psychology
PERIODICALt Nauka i zhisn', 1961; No. 2, pp. 35-39
TEM The article investigates the various psychological problems and
stresses which future astronauts will probably have to face.
Experiments
with animals in the second and third Soviet space ships indicate
that the
body can withstand the physical stresses of apace flight and
weightlessness.
Man may find it more difficult to orientate himself in space and
time during
space flight because of the lack of succession of day and night and
because
of the absence of an "up" or a "down" in a state of weightlessness.
At first
the astronaut will have difficulty in judging the duration of an
occurrence.
The experience of the space dogs, however, indicated that they
preserved
some sense of time and rapidly adjust themselves to the situation.
An aid-
ing factor here would be the "time metroviomell in the brain, i. a.,
the re-
gular rhythm of 12 oscillations a second in the bioelectrio activity
of the
brain. The astronaut will not be conscious of motion, noise or
(except

during the active phase of the flight) vibration. Prolonged isolation
of
thin sort can cause various psychic disturbances and halucinations. The
author feelat however, that an catronaut will be assisted by the
routine In-
otrument readings and observations he will have to make. Drugs may
also be
used to combat tiredness or insomnia. The general conclusion is that
man
is sufficiently adaptable to overcome any foreoeeable psychological
diffi-
culties of space flight.

TITLE: Regulation of the pressure and slide velocity of hydraulic presses
with individual pump-accumulator drive
SOURCNt Kutnechno-shtempovochnoye proizvodstvo, no. 5, 1966, 32-36
TOPIC TACS: metal press, hydraulic device, fluid pump, hydraulic pressure

ABSTRACT: Certain self-contained high-speed hydrautic presses use the
accumulator sys-
tem to supply the energy. Such a system is capable of supplying a large volume
of b3L--
draulic fluidl\at a relatively constant.pressure In a short time. This type of
system
requires ialler volume capacity pumpe than direct-connected systems since the
pumps
can recharge the accumulator during the idle period of the press cycle. The time
re-
quired for loading and unloading dies is determined by the recharging-time
require-
ments. In presses of this kind, Weaver. whether they are vertical stamping
presses
or horizontal tube presses, the adjustment of pressure to the desired level,
during
the processing of products which do not require applying the full rated press
tonnage,
involves overconsumption of energy, decline in efficiency and occasional
breakdowns.
Most of these shortcomings can be adverted by carrying out these adjustments
