This pirment, because it has not the prop- erties of an acid, is chemically different from bilirubin and Its known derivatives,, By hydrolysis it finally gives bilirubin. Khoz., v. 32, #4, 52-56, Ap 1954 Abstract The author discusses the phenomenon of salt penetration through the crest of anticlinic folds called "diaperism". Diaperism is represented as an exclusive type of dis- harmonies developed in the Caucasian ridge. The basic characteristics of such a structure consists of reduction of the magnitude of the stratum with frequent increase of the angle of the folds. The discussion is also re- lated to the morphology of the formation of soline structures found during exploration of oil deposits. The morphology and conditions of formation of the platform, geosynclinal, and transitional types are described. Works of I. M. Gubkin, A. D. Arkhangel'skiy and others are also mentioned and evaluated within the scope of the discussed subject. 7 Russian references (1936-52). Neft. Ispytateley Prirody, Otdel Ge~logipheskiy, 1957, No 4, pp 27-33 (USSR) ABSTRACT: One of the unsolved problems in geotectonics is the estim- ation of the depths of folded systemo and great abyssal breaks. As far as 'an individual fold is ooncernedt its base cannot lie at a great depth beyond the boundaries of sedimentary layers, i.e.v deeper than 12 to 15 km. According to the viewpoint ot various investigatora,'the depths of folded systems, including metamorphic and crystalline rocks, can be considerably greater, attaining even several hundred km. The author s'ates that a geometrical approach to this problem as well as ~he application of some formulas to determine the depths of folded systems led to improbable results. Geo- metrical drawings of the profiles of.folds are applicable for practical purposes in the petroleum industry while drilling wells do~qn to 5 or 6 km in depth. However, this method is not applicable for disharmonic folds, especially diapir folds. Card 1/2 The depth of a fold is connected with the factor of its APRES OV S POMONOSTSEV, N.P. NefV i gaz, 1959, Nr 3, PP 3-4 (USSR) ABSTRAM Of late some geologists have been endeavouring to revive Mendeleyev'8 hypothesis, buried long ago, of the inorganic origin of petroleum. When this hypothesis was established the -present knowledge of the geology of petroleum was still lacking. Now, however, after hundred years of investigation and,z~ 1 exploitation of petroleum occurrences, and now that the total length of the boreholes amounts to several circumferences of the equator the resumption of this hypothesis is an anachronism. The present stage of the geology of petroleum confirms: Petrolem has nowhere been found in volcanic, magmatid rocks. Petroleum deposits are alwaya situated in sedimentary rock., remote from mountain ridges consisting of primitive rock. Considering the Card 1/2 large distance between primitive rock and petroleum deposits, On Some Theoretical Statements Regarding the Origin of Petroleum and the Formation of Petroleum Deposits ASSOCIATIONs SUBMITUDs SOV/152-59-3-1/2-5 the supposition that petroleum may have leaked through rifts from the magma into the sediments is absolute phantasy._,, Azerbaydzhanskiy industriallnyy institut im. Paton was a bridge-builder and special- ist in electric welding, who during the war, improved -the welding automate for welding tank armor-plates, thereby can- aiderably increasing production. A special feature of the tectonics of the M.P.R. is the clearly expressed block-struc- ture of the crust. Block-folded areas are separated from each other by regional faults. Regional faulte and their attendant ininor frac- tures determine the orographic plan of Prikosogollye, the Kotlovlny Velikikh Ozerq the Mongolian Altay and the Gobian Altay. In most cases the slopes of these ranges are bounded by faults which are Card 1/4 S/169/61/000/011/014/065 The geomorphologic premise of D228/D304 continually being rejuvenatedo The main characteristic feature of the crust's movement is the generally strong, but extremely irregu- lar uplift of all structural-tectonic blocks. The irregularity and intensity of contemporary uplifts are largely responsible for the increased seismicity of the M.P.R.'s western districts. Judgements about the amplitudes of the latest uplift are deduced from a compa- rison of the indications of certain regional geomorphologic marker- surfaces. Three surfaces - lower, middle, and upper - are establi.- shed. The lower penepianation surface has been preserved everywhere in the resent topography;-its absolute datum varies from 1100 to 2700 m Nastern Khangay to the west of the Mongolian Altay). The middle peneplanation surface has been much more poorly preserved, and it forms the flat summit expanses of the highest ridges of the Khangay Highlands and the Khan-Khulhey, Dzhirgalantu-Nuru and other ranges,~ The datum of this surface varies from 1300 to 3500 m.. The upper peneplanation surface is traced along the flat summits of the relatively rare mountain-massifs. The larger the difference in the height between the lower and middle peneplanation surfacesi the grea- ter the seismicity of theAerritory in the M.P.R. But the epicen- Card 2/4 S/169/61/000/011/014/065 The geomorpbologic premise of ... Differenuiated block move.- ments of the crustj which promote the formation oi erosionall oulU11- ersp also condition the country's seismicity. Increased seismicity is noted when there are high islands with terraced slopes in th;-. lakes. The seismic cavings, thrusts, and fractures are regarded as geomorphologic indications of former earthquakes~ The geomorphologic criteria enumerated above permit the tentative appraisal of the pos- sible seismicity of different areas of the M.P~R. for applied pur- poses. Zones of possible earthquakes with a force of 9 and more in- olude the regions of the Selengins Mesozoic downwarp in the North- ern Khangay, the Khan-Khunkhey Range~ the Kharkhira Massif, the A-.-- tan-Khunkhey Massifq the Dzhirgalantu-Nuru Massif in the Mong, olian Altay, the insular ranges of the Gobian Altaig and the sout-hern margin of the Khangay Highlands.
