Abstract: rAuthors' Hungarian summary] A follow-up study of our
patients
with gastric and duodenal ulcer who were treated surgically
using the
Billroth I operation led to the conclusion that this method can
be con-
sidered advantageous from the aspect of late results as well,.~_
when used
in suitable cases. It can also often be performed in the case of
duodenal
ulcer. An analysis of the unsuccessful cases revealed that these
can be
further improved partly by renewed surgery and partly by
conservative treat-
ment. For this reason, a strict intraoperative selection is
considered to
be the correct approach which will lead to the individual
selection of the
best method which also , helps -to ireduce postoperative
complica-

Abstract. [Authors' Hungarian summary] The serum cholinesterase activity

---V~e;nined with "Acholtest" paper before and after 58 surgical opera-
tions mainly involving the thorax. A total of 116 tests were carried
out.
A decreased level of activity was present in 11 patients before surgery.
On the basis of the postoperative tests, a correlation was found
between the
underlying diseasep the type and duration of the Operation, and the
changes
in the serum cholinesterase level. It is concluded that, along with the
"
other usual tests, knowledge of the serum cholinesterase level leads to
a
more exact estimation of the surgical risks involved in a given case.
The
"Acholtest" paper method is considered to be suited for routine
practice.

WOUND

A method of transolantation was employed on 8 dogs.
The femoral artery was re-'
sected and the wound was Infected by the introduction
of a suspension of staphylo-
coccal culture. The actual transplantation was
accomplished either some hours or
ome days later, using either Bogorazov's technique or
using a vessel-suturing In-
trument. The tissues of the vessel bed were
infiltrated with penicillin and then an
:
anticoagulant was introduced. The result of the
operation was checked from 2
weeks to 1.5 months later by means of a single
arteriography, using a 40% solution
01 Ine (methiodal). After this, specimens for
microscopic examination were
pr= from the arterial segments containing the graft.
These experiments '
showed that in 5 dogti out of 8 vascular patency was
obtained with the transplanta-
tion Into an infected wound of a stored arterial

"The article gives data for the past 9 years (1945-1954). up to
15054 there was no tendency toward a decrease in the incidence
of bru-
cellosis in the rayon. The majority of the patients are young.
During.
the first few years the overwhelming majority of the patients
c-, from
the Karakul sovkhozes (vorkers and members of their families).
In. 1954
patients from these sovkhozes comprised 50% of all brucellosis
patients.
"The majority of the patients entered [the hospital] during the
summer months, a fact which is connected with the negative
effect of the
high air temperatures during this period. Moreover, these
patients had
contracted the disease from 2-3 months before they were
admitted, i.e.,
during the period of intensive laztbing andLthe processing of
the karakul
bides.

."In (04 of the Patients a.subfebrile temperature was noted upon
admittance. Subjective complaints and the severity of the
disease did
not always agree with the temperature reaction. Upon
admittance, the
patients were usually found to be suffering from general
lassitude,
anis, high temperatures, sweats, pains in the small of the
back, mus-
cles, and joints, and headache. Cardio-vascular symptoms
presented were
enlargement of the heart and dullness of tones. Enlargement of
the liver
was frequently noted. The blood was characteristically
leukopenic aud
there was often lymphocytosis, aneosinophilia, monocytopenia,
and an ac-
celerated erythrocyte sedimentation rate.
"Since 1948, vaccine has been used to treat the brucellosis

However, since 1954 extensive use has also been made of
levomycetin.
"After the patients have been discharged from the hospital, it

Ordzhoni-
kidze took on the obligation to fulfil the Year's plan by
17 Dec 1958, and the planned output of automatic lines by
1 Oct 1958. An extra 4 automatic lines will be produced by
the and of the year. The plan for 1958 calls for a total
production of 16 lines. During the 5th Five Year Plan, 18
lines were produced. This year's production will. thUB ex-
ceed the total output of the years 1951-1955. The automat-
ic lines consist of complex machine tools, auxiliary mechan-
isms and transport devices. In October, a 'new 6-spindle au-
tomatic machine type 1A225-6 was turned over to the State
