Roentgenological data on the development of a p rocess towards the oral vestibule are frequently unobtainable. In the search for more convenient projections the authors resorted revisional roentgenoscopy of the tumour localization area, directing the beam at a tangent to the part of the jaw under investigation. At the Barrie time they employed inflation of the cheeks for purposes of artificial contrasting. At their request the patient moved the air bubble along the vestibule of the oral cavitir, set- ting it at any desired point along the alveolar edge of the jaw. Having chosen the best projection, they performed roentgenography at voltage of 40-45 kv. and a cur- rent power of 25 ma. The contrast method employed allowed the authors to define the distribution of a process origin'atinil both from bone and the soft tievues. Izvestiya. Fizika,Zemli, no. 8, 1966, 8-21 TOPIC TAGS: upper mantle, seismic wave, geology ABSTRACT., Some characteristics of the postglacial uplift of the Earth's crust in Fennoscandia, are considered which indicate that the uplift in of an isostatic rather than platform nature. The principal conaiderations that lead to this ccnclusion are that the rate of uplift in its initial stage exceeded the characteristic rates of* platform motion by at least one order of magnitude and that the characteristic di- mensions of the uplift area of Fennoscandia greatly exceeds the dimensions typical of platform regions. The problem of the change with depth in mantle viscosity is analysed on the basis of the relations that govern the flow of an incompressible highly viscous fluid and the results of a discu,3sion concerning the nature of the development of the isostatic uplift of Yennoscandia. The analyais leads to the con- clusion that in the upper mantle of the Earth there exists a waveguida (at a depth of roughly 80 to 200 km) in the form of a stratum characterized by a low rate of propagation and anomalous absorption of seismic"Waves, and also a stratum (about 300 characterized by 10W Viscosity (agtenosphere). It is seen that ovei' IM^. CEO% 1%.1 ACC NRt AP6029664 distances of tLe order of several hundred kilometers, isostasy was established owing to the yielding of rock material in the astenosphere. An analysis of the stresses and the associated elastic strains created in the Earth due to disturbance of isostatic equilibrium shows that these strains did not play any oignificant role in the uplift of Fennoscandia. TITLE: The Isotopic Shift of the Curie PQWttathe Eydride and Deuteride of Uranium (Izotopicheskiy 3dvig tochki Kyurl v gidrida i deyteride urana) PERIODICAL: Zhurnal okeperimentallnoy i tooreticheskoy fizAki, 1959, Vol 36, Nr 2, pp 636-637 (USSR) ABSTRACT: The detection of the ferromagnetism of u:ranium hydride and uranium deuteride (Refs 1, 2, 3) made it possible to investi- gate the isotopic shift of the Curie (Kyuri,' temperature. One of these possibilities is aiven by the fact that the distance betueen the uranium ions is different in the 2 above-mentioned compounds. There are several inethode which permit a sufficiently precise determination of the Curie temperature in ferromagnetics. The authors of the present paper investigated the temperature dependen,.,c of the remanent magnetization of samplca of uranium hydride and uranium deu- teride in order to obtain preliminary result'. a concerning the shift of the Curie point. The remanent magnotization of Card 1/3 the samples was measured by an astatic magnetomuter. The BOV/56-36--2-54/63 The Isotopic Shift of the Curif Pokttatte Hydride and Deuteride of -Uranium authors prepared more than 20 samples of uranium hydride and uranium deuteride. For any investigated stimple, a difference was observed between the Curie temperaturcs of uranium hydride and uranium deuteride. This shift practically does not depend on thedegreo of purity of the original uranium and it is, therefore, not caused by chemical inpurities. Typical curves for the temperature dependonce 17or the remanent magnetization are shown in a figure. Accorling to this figure, the difference of the Curi temperatures of urpnium hydride and0deuteride amounts to 4 and the mean orror amounts to 0.5 . The shift A 0 of the Curie temperature therefore is equal to E) UH 1JD A8- +(4-0 + O.-WK. The absolute 3 3 value of the Curie temperature cannot be found according to the method described in this paper. The Curie point deduced by extrapolation from the temperature depc.~noencv of %he remanent magnetization of a given sample practically dc3E not depend on external influences. The authors suggest investigating the absolute value of the Curie temperature of uranium hydride and uranium deuteride, and they thank Academician I. K. Kikoin Card 2/3 for suggesting the problem discussed in this papar and for his SOV/56-36-2-54/63 t The Isotopic Shift of the Curie Pointlathellydride ani Deute-ride of Uranium help.
