ABSTRACT: An examination is made of a steady regime of cold
rolling in which
the material being processed, which is comparatively thin,
rectangular
sheet, is rolled between two rigid, practically undeformable
cylin--
drical rolls of identical diameter, rotating it-i opposite
directions.
Left out of consideration are the elastic deformations (D) of
the metal
(Me) being processed and of the roll stand, whAe the intensity
of the
stresses is taken to be constant. The working hypotheses used
are those

kinematics of Plarstic mas-
ses in motion. Taking into consideration the existence of two
zones
of friction (Coulomb and Prandtl) in finding %he: true
pressure, a com--
plete solution for the rolling problem is found for any degree

of the metal in the contact area. The formulas for distribution
of the generalized
pressure prove A. A. III yushin' s theorem for any level of
reduction; when thin sheet
is rolled, there is only one point of adhesion along the tine
yl=O if the width of
the sheet is equal to or larger than the width of the contact
area, but a segment of
adhesion exists if the sheet is less than the length of the
contact area.

TEXTs A body of plastic material to be forge!d is compressed
between two practically undeformable surfaces of ~. die approaching
each other. At an initial inutant, the blank is bounded by a given
arbitrary contour. The thickness of the forged m,kterial can be
non-uniform but varies smoothly. The thickness dLuiensions are
sinall compared with the planform. The spreading In planform is
unrestrained. Referrinz to A.A. 111yushin (PNM, r.19, no.6v 1955)
the generalize.d pressure is written down. The mal, hematical
derivation leads to a Cauchy type problem, the Seneral solution of
which is given. The examples of a rectangular pl4ite and of a
tapered rectangular plate are treated in detail.. The reg

flow and the distribution of pressure are obtairtatile from 'Siven

PERIODICAL: Radio, 1959, Nr 41 P 56 (USSR)
ABSTRACT: AC voltage stabilization circuits usually are
composed
of two gas-discharge tubes as shown in Figure 1. The
authors found that the application of one SG-2P gas-
discharge tube will provide an equal stabilization ef-
fect. Figure 2 shows a voltage stabilization circuit
with one gas-discharge tube. The aut'..*Iors have the
opinion that the latter circuit will -be adequate in a
number of possible applications. There are 2 circuit
diagrams and 1 graph.

ABSTRACT: An investigation has been made of automatic welding of
chromium bronze Br. Kh- 1 with a standard Cu wire tip, grade
M-1, submerged beneath ceramic flux. The possibility of
alloying the weld metal with Gr, Mn, Mo, Ti, Zr, Be, and
other elements by introducing a precipitating deoxidizer (AI)
into the flux, as well as alloying components in the form of
powders of pure metals or Cu alloys, was checked. The sla.g-
forming portion of the flux consists of the following exceedingly
simple components (in percent): A1203 16. 00, B203 14-25~
SiOZ 23. 10, CaO 8.90, MgO 7.65, CaF2 21 - 00, Na2O 9. 10.

these elements within a broad range, and Ti, Zr, and Be
induce a trans-
formation in the weld metal and the Al. Automatic submerged
welding of
Br.Kh- I bronze yields tight seams without pores or
crac-ks, having the same
strength as the parent metal. The procedure for welding Br.
Kh- I broii;,.e
5.5 mrn in thickness is: 450-500 amp current, 38-40 v arc
potential, 21-2Z
m/.hr welding speed, graphite backing having shaping
grooves. The resi3tance
to formation of hot cracks is several times greater in
aL.bmerged-arc welding
than it is when fused fluxes AN-20 and OSTs-45 are employed.

to be well
sL-ited for studying polymeric organic compounds. The

attachments. The
authors thank G. I. Distler, Head of the gruppa cptichoskikh

the authors consider the conversion character of stearic acid
to be irre-
versible. The sf~me holds for palmiti.-~ auid wh.Lch shows a
similar effect at
420C (Fig. 1). With olaic acid, by contrast, an endothErmic
effect was
established between 200 and 20.5oC, which confirms the data of
a previous
paper by G. B. Ravich and coworkers (Ref. 1),. On the strength
of further
differences established between the oprcAra of the stulli
P-phase and the
unstable cf-phase of stearic and palmitik- acids, as well as
of the moleaular
compound of these two aoid8, the authors state that the latter
is bound to
be polymorphic as well. Only the band "2.1 cm- 1 which, in
contrast to
stearic acid in the molecular Qompounl' i.,, not split,
requires a special
discussion. The distinct difference bctween tho speutra of the
modifiCa- V/
tions cf oleic acid (especially of the phase converting at
20.51C) is
explained by the authors as follows: One of the
liquid-crystalline phases,
a3 are characteristic of aliphatic compounds with a long
chain, especially
of oleic acid soaps (Ref. 10), is believed to exist here.
Papers by
G. B. Ravich, V. A. Vol'nova, and T. 11. Kuz'mina (Ref. 1), and

Abstract :Hybridization of some distant varieties of
cotton are described In short and the obtain-
ed hybrids are examined from the aspect of
oytoembryology. The author drax,,r. the con-
olusion that even though the pollen of distant

cotton plants, It nevertheless affects the
hybrids' crossbreed vigor by tha action of
the fluid discharged by pollen at the stigma.
The author indicates that the method of heter-
ologous pollination permits: 1) to obtain
crossbreed generations by an Interbrand hybrid-
ization; 2) differentiate varieties according
to their hereditary propertiej; 3) decrease
the depressivene8a of interspecific hybrids

catalysts of
different porosities were prepared by means of drying in the
presence of
surface-active substances (isoamyl-, cyclohexyl-, and octyl
alcohol, as
well as butyric, oleic, and naphthenic acids). An investigation
of the
porosity and the distribution of pores with respect to their
radii, as
well as of the activity of MS catalysts, showed that the
presence of
transition pores with a radius of 25-401 was necessary for the
cracking
of gasoil from Groznyy petroleum. In their absence, the
activity of MS

catalysts drops by about the 1.5-fold. A development of
larger pores
with radii of up to 70 9 reduces the specific surface of the
MS catalyst,
and therefore its activity does not increase so much. The
reforming of
the stable cracking distillate in the presence of the
propane propylene
fraction under pressure proceeds better on a coarse-pored AS
catalyst than
on a fine-pored one. This is explained by better
accessibility of the
active surface to the reacting molecules.C Abstracter-s

TITLE: The problem of the choice of solvent for polymerivation of

TEXT: An investigation is made of the possibility of using extraction
benzine as a solvent for ethylene when polymerizing it into
polyethylene
at low pressure. It is shown that the following are suitable: -an
extrac-
tion benzine fraction evaporating at 65-9000 with an aromatio
hydroaa:rbon
content of 3.8% before do-aromatization and of 0-7% after
de-aromatizationp
or a fraction evaporating at 75-950C in the case of which
do-aromatization:
is not needed (aromatic hydrooarbon'ooncentration,0-7%;)- It is shown
that!
the presence of aromatic hydrocarbons has no effect or, the
polymerization
procoss, but impairs the regenerability of the solvent.. [Abstracteris
