AN SSSR, ser. fiz. 1956, 20, No 4) 443-447 Abstract In order to eDicidatc, the i-afluence of orpnic admixtu- res (pyriaine, acetone, formamide, alcohols and others) upon the aggregation of dyes (methylene blue, rhoduline) orange NO and others), absorption spectra of solutions of dyes in mixed solvents of variable composition (water 4 oreanic solvent) were examined. When the composition of the solvent is changed, the absorption spectrum of a dye is changed. In order to compare the action of diffe- rent organic solvents, the ratio of heiChts of maxima of long-vave and sh-.)rt-wave a:bsorption bands (W ) is taken into consideration which the author takes as a criterion Card 1/2 - 41 - OTHOR AFIVAH Xh-L.jVAJ()'/A J.V-j TITLE Absorption SPQct,r-t -F Certain Dyea in ~,!Ixcrl Solvcrits. SOV/2o-121-1-34/55 TITLE: The Spectroscopical Investigation of the Interaction of Two Dyes in a Solution (Spektrallnoye izlucheniye vzaimodeystviya dvukh krasiteley v rastvore) PERIODICAL: Doklady Akademii nauk SSSR, 1958, Vol. 121, Nr 1, pp. 123 - 125 (USSR) ABSTRACT: The author investigated aqueous solutions of a mixture of dyes of the thiazine series (thionine, methylene blue, and toluidine blue ) and of the acridine aeries ( tripaflavine, acridine yellow, Rhoduline orange, and also non-substituted acridine) by means of the spectrophotometer SF-4. A diagram illustrates the absorption spectra of a mixture of two dyes (methylene blue and acridine yellow) in an aqueous solution. The interaction of the dyes modifies the form and the ab- sorption band of every dye and displaces it towards the side of red light. In a certain part of the spectrum the absorption is determined only by two types of absorbing centers, namely by free methylene blue and by methylene blue which is bound by acridine yellow. The activity of interaction in the class Card 1/3 of the thiazine dyes increases in the ordsr thioninep methylene The Spectroscopical Investigation of the Interaction SOV/2o-121-1-34/55 of Two Dyes in a Solution blue, toluidine blual non-subatituted acridine is bound the least by acridine dyes, while acridine yellow and Rhoduline orange are more active in this respect, According to these data the independent aggregation increases in the case of the acridines in the order acridine, tripaflavine, acridine yellow, Rhoduline orange, in the case of the thiazines in the order thionine, methylene blue, toluidine blue. The activity of the combination of both dyes with each other is the higher the more each of the two dyes tends to a homogeneous dimeri- sation. Only Rhoduline orange is an exception. The properties of the complexes are analogous to those of the common dimers: The dimers and the various complexes, too, mainly form in aqueous solutions. Both decompose at increased temperature. The occursvee of the complexes and of the homogeneous aggregates in a certain way stabilizes the absorption of the diluted solutions. The energy of the complex formation isrj 9 kcal/mol in the case of the combination of methylene blue with acridine yellow-The author expresses his gratitude to M.V.SavrOBtlyanOV, Professor, for his interest in the present work. THE DAILY PERIODICITY OF THE SPONTANEOUS MOTILITY OF THE NORMAL AND DENERVED UTERUS, THE PHYSIOLOGY OF UTERINE FUNCTION. PART 1. INILTHODS Ar A. and Nag), J. (Budapest) 1956, 1012-4 (199-2141 Graphs I After a review of the literature a method is described for observation of spontan- cous motility of the uterus and its changes in the living. unanaesthetized dog. Tile activities of an intact and a denervated uterine horn can be compared. It was found that the intact and the denervated horn show the same characteristic diurnal rhythm of activity, although in the denervated horn this is less regular. Spontaneous con- tractions are more frequent in the morning than in the evening and night. Denerva- tion causes characteristic changes in nerve structure, condition of the mucosa and function of the uterus. The uterine nerve plexus regresses a few days after opera- tion. The mucosa atrophies in 8-14 months. The most characteristic finding was the complete irregularity of activity of the denervated uterine muscle. The effect of an extremely strong stimulation ~f the or- gans of sense on the function and morphology of the ova- ry Z.GEBURTSII.GYNAK. 1956, 147/3 (371-388) Graphs I Illus. 10 Sexually mature female rats from the same strain were submitted every day to in. tensive stimulation by strong light, sound anti electric stimuli. These stimuli led to significant changes in the ovarian function and in the morphology Gf the functional elements and vegetative innervation of the ovary. As regards function, the periodi- city of the vegetative and generative activity of the ovary is arrested. After tran- sitory shortening of the cycle the animals developed a stage of permanent dioestrus. However, this Is not charactenzed by a loss of functional activity of the ovary, the persisting dloestrus is rather a manifestation of the predominance of the action of progesterone. Apart from luteinization of the stroma, another striking morphologi- cal finding was the presence of severe degenerative changes In most of the follicles. The excessive stimulation also gave rise to significant and characteristic changes In the vegetative nerve fibres of the ovary. It is assumed that the high degree of luteinization of the stroma is produced through the cortico-hypothalamo-hypophysco- ovarian system. However, the degenerative changes restricted to part of the fol- licles manifest themselves neurally. The morphological substrate of these changes is the characteristic change of the vegetative innervation.
