A051/A129 The apparatus consists of a tank 1 creating pressure along 10 m. The liquid :`rom tank 1 enters the measuring capacity 7 passing through the pipoline 2, through ,he nozzle 6. The liquid discharge was regulated by tap 4. The pressure charge durItZ the motion of the viscous liquid in the conical tubes was measured in crossr- ,seotions A and B, using a sensitive two-liquid manometer 9. Fig. 21s a graph z:howing the characteristic features of the motion of.the viscous liquid In the conical t~jbes. In the interval 3 - 103 -_ R e- 2 - 105 the function /~ hardly de- Dends on R. In the interval 10 4ft' R < 3 . 103 /L does not depend on the angle of taper at all. At 10 4 R 4 300 the liquid flow in the conical nozzles is laminated, t-ut no strictly linear law of this flow is observed, just as in the cylindrical. tutes. A comparison of the data obtained by the authors with those of Alltshul (Refs. 4, 9) and theoretical calculations made by Wuest (Ref. 10) showed that no 1_'-ear relationship of the type /6 = AR (5) results from equation (3) in the same interval (10_,~~ R -- 300) of R. Aesults obtained from calculations made with equation (5) by other authors did not correspond to the experimental data obtained in this work. This discrepancy is explained by the fact that a conical tube of varying cross-sectlons shows much greater res~stances to the liquid flow than round apertures in a thin wall do. A transfer from the laminar to the turbulent. movement is noted at the critical value of R: Rk = 300 ! 330. In the interval Card 3/-7, V 22231 S/093/61/000/002/002/0()3 The motion of a real liquid ... A051/A129 3 - 10 3 < R < 105 the liquid motion is turbulent and hardly depends on R. With a !'jrther Increase in the R number/% decreases to 0.92 and then sharply IncreasesI r,za~hirg a maLximLm/.G= 0.99 at R - 4.5 - 105 (Ref,5. 5, 8). Further the value of /6 de,-reases again (Ref. 6). An example Is given of the calculations for deter- min.Ing the dischax-ge of petroleum products and water at a pressure 1i = 5 m through a :onical nozzle with an aperture diameter in the narrow cross-section d = 10 mm. h? example showed that conical nozzles may be used successfully as a discharge- m,:-.ter for measuring high-viscous liquids, if the pressure drop on the nozzle end *,h" -,emra.rallure of the liquid in the given cross-section are known. A., Chernikin, V. I. TITLE: Interaction of a thermal and of a hydrodynamic field in a flow with variable viscosity PERIODICAL: Izvestiya vysshlkh uchebnykh zayedeniy. Neft' i gaz, no. 1961, 67-73 TEXT: The interaction of a thermal and a hydrodynamic field in a laminar, longitudinal viscous flow around a body is as yet insufficiently studied both theoretically and expeTimoatally. Solutions by extensive calculations of nonlinear integral equations are not in good agreement with experimental values. For a better explanation of the physical picture of the interac- tion of fields, the authors solved by approximation the equations of the thermal boundary layer on a plane plate, around which therels &longitudinal viscous flow, whose physical parameters are functions of temperature. A theoretical study was made of the relations between the velocities along the x and y axes, the temperature, the Reynolds and Prandtl numbers, the kinematic viscosity of the liquid, the heat exchange, the heat conduction Card 1/2 Interaction of ... S/152/61/000/003/002/003 B129/B201 coefficient of the liquid. The result obtained is that the heat exchan'ge depends on the direction of the thermal currentf and that the heat ex- change in the cooling process is markedly distinguished from the heat exchange in the heating process. Experimental evidence is given of the fact that the heat exchange has the same character both in a flow around a plate and a cylinder. The theoretical solution is shown to be in satisfac- tory agreement with experimental results. There are 6 references: 3 Sovi- et-bloo and 3 non-Soviet-bloc. (L'vov) ORG: none ;TITLE: Protection of electron-counting frequency meters against noise SOURCE: Avtometriya, no. 5, 1966, 81-85 ,!TOPIC TAGS. signal noise separation, frequency meter, noise modulation 'ABSTRAM When automatic, low-frequency-meters are used there Is the problem of pro- itection against high-frequency noise entering the instrument input together with the I !,signal to be measured, especially if the working frequency range reaches 1 mliz or imore. The present article examines several methods of providing reliable frequency i !meter operation when there is high-frequency noise. It is expedient to evvluate in- istrument noiseproofness by the degree of tolerable noise voltage in an absolute or a I irelative expression (in millivolts or percentage of useful signal level, respectively), , Some methods of noise protection are: proper choice of shaper hysteresis voltage, ex- panding frequency range by using a tunnel diode in the shaper, and connecting a low- frequency filter (e.g., RC) at instrument input. Schematics are given to illustrate each of these methods, of which the third seems, to be the simplest. A table based on automatic cutting in of such a filter Indicates, that the tuierable noise level at which the instrument still gives correct readings does not depend on signal strength; Card 1/2 UDCe 681,2A88 -1 ACC NRt AP7002823 Ibecause of the nonuniformity of the frequency characteristic of the channel this value, fluctuates in a +2 db range. Noise protection effectiveness is great, especially in the high-krequency interference region when the tolerable noise level exceedis the luseful signal voltage. In 1954 for the first time -the development of "teleyto" pustules was observed; earlier the existence of yellow rust was noted only in the uredostage. The following plants were affected by the disease: Triticum vulgarej T. compactum, T. turgidum, Hordeum vulgare) H. dis- tichum, H. hexastichum, H. jubatum, Elymus sibiricus, Roegheria trachycaulon, Agropyrum repens and Secale cereale (summer). To cbeck the wear of blast furnace linings, radioactive sources, generally CobO are placed into the lining, the radiations being recorded by a counter located outside of the furnace. The value of the source's activity is determined by calculating the attenuation of the radiation in the refractory brick, steel shell and other structural material.
