The apparatus consists of a tank 1 creating pressure along 10
m. The liquid :`rom
tank 1 enters the measuring capacity 7 passing through the
pipoline 2, through
,he nozzle 6. The liquid discharge was regulated by tap 4. The
pressure charge

was measured in crossr-

tutes. A comparison of the data obtained by the authors with
those of Alltshul
(Refs. 4, 9) and theoretical calculations made by Wuest (Ref.
10) showed that no
1_'-ear relationship of the type /6 = AR (5) results from
equation (3) in the same
interval (10_,~~ R -- 300) of R. Aesults obtained from
calculations made with
equation (5) by other authors did not correspond to the
experimental data obtained
in this work. This discrepancy is explained by the fact that a
conical tube of
varying cross-sectlons shows much greater res~stances to the
liquid flow than
round apertures in a thin wall do. A transfer from the laminar
to the turbulent.
movement is noted at the critical value of R: Rk = 300 ! 330.

TEXT: The interaction of a thermal and a hydrodynamic field in a
laminar,
longitudinal viscous flow around a body is as yet insufficiently
studied
both theoretically and expeTimoatally. Solutions by extensive
calculations
of nonlinear integral equations are not in good agreement with
experimental
values. For a better explanation of the physical picture of the
interac-
tion of fields, the authors solved by approximation the equations of
the
thermal boundary layer on a plane plate, around which therels
&longitudinal
viscous flow, whose physical parameters are functions of
temperature. A
theoretical study was made of the relations between the velocities
along
the x and y axes, the temperature, the Reynolds and Prandtl numbers,
the
kinematic viscosity of the liquid, the heat exchange, the heat
conduction

coefficient of the liquid. The result obtained is that the heat
exchan'ge
depends on the direction of the thermal currentf and that the
heat ex-
change in the cooling process is markedly distinguished from
the heat
exchange in the heating process. Experimental evidence is given
of the
fact that the heat exchange has the same character both in a
flow around a
plate and a cylinder. The theoretical solution is shown to be
in satisfac-
tory agreement with experimental results. There are 6

denser arrangement of the points diminishes the space-charge effect

the ionization current, It also retiults in an undesirable Increase

ABSTRACT: The authors present the results of investigations
conducted
from 1954 to 1956 to determine head losses in large-diame-
ter conduits. The investigations were carried out on pres-
sure conduits of the earth auction dredges, which delivered
water-solid mixture into the earth dame of the Kakhovka and
Kremenchug Hydroelectric Power Plants. The pipes were of
the following diameterst 900, 800 and 614 mm. The authors
present numerical data. in tabulated form and in graphical
form as curves expressing the values of head losses plotted
versus the velocity, the diameters of the conduits and the

'ABSTRAM When automatic, low-frequency-meters are used there Is
the problem of pro-
itection against high-frequency noise entering the instrument
input together with the
I
!,signal to be measured, especially if the working frequency range
reaches 1 mliz or
imore. The present article examines several methods of providing
reliable frequency
i
!meter operation when there is high-frequency noise. It is
expedient to evvluate in-
istrument noiseproofness by the degree of tolerable noise voltage
in an absolute or a I
irelative expression (in millivolts or percentage of useful signal
level, respectively), ,
Some methods of noise protection are: proper choice of shaper
hysteresis voltage, ex-
panding frequency range by using a tunnel diode in the shaper, and
connecting a low-
frequency filter (e.g., RC) at instrument input. Schematics are
given to illustrate
each of these methods, of which the third seems, to be the
simplest. A table based on
automatic cutting in of such a filter Indicates, that the
tuierable noise level at
which the instrument still gives correct readings does not depend
on signal strength;

Ibecause of the nonuniformity of the frequency characteristic of

great, especially in
the high-krequency interference region when the tolerable noise
level exceedis the
luseful signal voltage. Orig. art. has: 4 fonsulas# 1 tablet and 4

Abstract :The development of yellow rust P. glumarum
Erikss. et Henn,
in many spots of the Primorskiy Kray occurred in 1950
and 1954
due to chilly and humid weather. In 1954 for the first
time
-the development of "teleyto" pustules was observed;
earlier
the existence of yellow rust was noted only in the
uredostage.
The following plants were affected by the disease:
Triticum

dis-

Roegheria

radioactive
isotopes in various metallurgical processes. To cbeck the
wear of blast
furnace linings, radioactive sources, generally CobO are
placed into the
lining, the radiations being recorded by a counter located
outside of the
furnace. The value of the source's activity is determined by
calculating
the attenuation of the radiation in the refractory brick,
