Z .01 TOPIC TAGS: elecjKo -- p!q!Liig~ ismuth, electrolytic deposition, solution kinetics 38, no. 8, 11965, 1783- 1789 bismuth compound, hydrochloric acid, 1 ABSTRACT: The rarticLe gives results of an investigation of the properties of big-4 muth platings obtained from an electrolyte containing bismuth trichloride and hydrochloric acid, without organic additives. The WBmuth was plated oul. from a nolution containing 48 grarn/liter of bismuth trichloride and 117 gram/liter hydro-L chloric acid. Polarizatiop during bismuth plating wits measured with a l9LMp voltmeter with the aid cif/,a bismuth comparlson V g;tFodc? located in the same elec i trolyte. Microhardnes;q!iVais determined with a T-Ahstrument with a load of :30 grams on the- inde ir. Plating thickness was 10 microns and the anode was it rod of pure bismuth. Experimental data indicated a yield of more than 100%, iCardl/2 .... .. 1 3100-66 ACCESSION NR: AP502.166-11 which is explained by the presence of a certain arnowit of divalent bismuth in the solution. Spectroscopic: and chemical ana1yses were made of the biamuth platings. Spectroscopic analynis nhovred the presence of magnesium (about 0. 01%) and lesid (D. 001%) and traces of arsenic. Chemical analysis showed a content of 96-99% bismuth. The structure of the platings was microcrystalline (mean grain diame- tier was 0. 3-12 microns). HUect.roplated bismuth Is characterized by high micm- hardness and there is a considerable change in hardness after plating. After ;-electrolysis, a process of structural transformation takes place irk the bismuth platings, the mechanism of which leads to "relaxation" and re crystallization as determined by direct ob,senration. TITLE: Internal strains i)f cadmium electroplated by application of an alt rna e ting current .SOURCE: Zhurnal fizJ.ches)toy khimii v. 39, no. 8, 1965, 1075-1879. TOPIC TAGS: cadmium electroplating, internal strain, cadmium electrodeposit ABSTRACT: The effect of the electrolyte temperature anti of the frequency, amplitude and density of alternatingeurrent on primary and secondary strains in cadmium elec-., trx)deposits was studica under various electrolysis contiftions. At 10-400C and cur- rent densities of 0.1-1 a/dm2,, a rise in the electrolyt(i temperature increases th, :initial strains o0l which characterize the tendency of the deposited cadmium to ex- pand; this effect becomes Dorv* pronounced with decreasirg ('tx~oent density. When a sitiusoidal alternatiRg current: Is applied, the initial cryst 41lization strains do- crease. As the frequency :viscs, this affect becomes weaker, but increases with the of the altwrnating current. At relatively high current denaities 'Cai-d 1/2 ----------- -~J L 1.561-66 ACCESSION NR: APS021413 ;(1 a/cm2), the effect -of the alternating current declines with rising temperature. At a. low density of the direct current (0.6 a/dm2), the effect of the alternating current is relatively Independent of temperature. As the density of the direct cur-, rent rises, the effect of the alternating current (at a constant ratio of both cur-' rents) increases at first, then declines. The alternating current has no direct ef~ .fect on the course of post-crystallization structural trarisformations taking place .in the deposit; it affects the extent and rate of such pn)cesses only by changing the magnitude of the initial crystallization strains.
