ABSTRACT: Th WAlity of dogs to produce' deliWed re-sponses; to
various kiniN of stim-
ulus (ocular., auditory, and vestibulu) vas~studied. DeLayed
responses to visual
stimull are performed by dogs with different 41elay maximumn. In
quiet, immobile
dogs the maxinitm, delair of alimentary response to a visu!Ll
jitimulus mW be 10-15 min,
In act.-Ive, eazil3t exc'Med dogs the delayL maxiiiftim does not
exceed 3 min, The duration
of delnyed reaction greatly depends on the repetition of the
experiment, i.e. on
training. ~%ximikm dalay is achieved by alteriiating sho,:t delays
with longer ones
until the maxinuri is reached. The maximum de:-,ay is reached much
faster and far more
successfidlyin qiLiet, immobile dogs than in e6sily excited dogs.
However, the abil-

ing. Animals jn,W produce delayed responses at the first tilal, some
minutes after
they have seen t,he food or heard the signal. The delky of responses
to conditioned
stimuli (bell, tone) was somewhat 'shorter (8-12 min), The mixtimum
delay of re- -
sponses to con(t.tioned natural signals (noise 'Df food basin) was
significantly shorter
(3-5 min). In e.-q)eriments with visual stimuii and conditioned food
signals, unusuai
stimulation during the delay period, even. feedIng or removal of the
animal from-the
-cage, did not disrupt the delayed response. Miximum delay Df
response to conditioned
sound stimuli if somewhat more difficult to aciie--v 'then with
visual stimuli. The
animals.were also able to produce delayeo; r--sp')nses'to vestibular
stimulation. The
maximum'delay fcr these stimuli is 3-4 nin. ~Mese findingp are
