39 pollen extracts from 14 families of plants: most frequent culprits
were Alopecurus pratensis (75%+, 64%++); among non-grasses, ragweed
was now found frequent around Zagreb (707.+, 38%++) goldenrod also (32%+,
16%++). Multiple sensitivities to non-pollen allergens involved 30%;
84% of patients were from Zagreb and 68% had 'intellectual' occupations.

scale) to establish.the optimum conditions of the process. Separa-
fion of the anode from the cathode compartment had hardly any affect
an the yields and no diaphragms were therefore used. As regards the
optimum proportion of H2SO4t the highest yield (WO) of 06H.5N02 was
obtained when 73.7 g of 112304 was added to 44 g of C,6H6. The pro-

in the conventional method. The yield is virtually independent of
current density (within the limits between 0.055 and 0.4 a/cm2);
similarly, the duration of nitration has a very small effect on the

it is also claimed that the apparatus involved would be simpler in

even in the plan; poor funding is a key factor as is relative lack of
graduate educational facilities. Of the 1736, exactly 736 are members of

TITLE': Fatigue strength increase in welded assemblies
of diesels by surface work hardening

TEXT; The authors In collaboration with M.A. Balter, Candidate of
Technical Sciences carried out tests on measures for preventing the
formation of cracks. The purpose of above was to reveal the effect
of work hardening in the zone of welding, as well as ihe importance
of annealing before and after welding. Calculations were made in
accordance with equations cited by M.Ya. Shashin in "Vestnik mashi-
nostroyeniya"p no. IOP 1955* Published data are ava4lable on pro-
blems, concerned with deep annealing after welding which indicate
that it produces a drop of fatigue strength in some- low-carbon
steels. Here it is necessary to point out that in this case com-
ponents were subject to deep annealing. During experiments compara-

Former were clamped by plates in a cantiiever arrangementt thus
allowing the free end of specimens to vibrate. The amplitude of
oscillations may determine the stress in spot of attachment (in wel-
ding seam). Comparative tests were carried out with a single value
of deforraition of 14 mm which corresponds to a bending stress of 13
kg/mm2, and thus exceeds the endurance limit. The evaluation was
made on the basis of the number of cycles before the destruction.
The results are -tabulated. Investigated specimens were subject to
metallographic analysis, when fractured macro and microstructure
as well as depth of work hardened layer were checked. Depth of the
hardened layer was measured by pyramid hardness tester with a load
of 10 kgj and proved to be about equal in pieces hardened by shot
blasting as well as by pneumatic hammering. Results of experiments
established that specimens break in the spot where the basic metal
is joined to the welded piece when untreated, whereas parts which
were work hardened disintegrate 3-5 mm further away from the weld-
seam. The microstructure of the basic metal which was not subject
to heating during welding is composed from small grains of ferrite.
The structure of the transition zone and the fused metal includes

in the transition zone. Data of investigation established the fol-
iowing: Nork hardening of seam and its adjacent zone markedly in-

equal. Cold plastic deformation before welding lowers theJ4tigue
strength of low-carbon specimens when compared to specimens that
did not undergo elongation, which may be due to recrystallization.
Work hardening does not remove the negative effect of deformation
prior to welding. Deep annealing after cold plastic deformation
shortens the life, On the basis of above it was decided to intro-
duce shot blasting instead of annealing after welding of receiver
bends. Two-year practice confirmed the effectiveness of shot blas-
