This phase may exist down to 930K when the compound is being cooled from 2000K. The low-temperature phase has two nuclear quadrupole reso- nance lines with frequencies which behave anomalously with respect to temperature. These frequencies increase with temperature between 77 and 1000K and then drop sharp- ly, disappearing at 1100K. This type of anomalous behavior has been observed pre- viously in molecular crystals only in TiBr4, and in this case was explained by the negative coefficient of nuclear quadrupole resonance frequency from pressure. For io- dobenzene, the phenomenon is kinetic, depending on the prehistory of the specimen. Card 1/2 L 9567-66 ACC NR: AP5027435 Prehistory is defined as multiple repetition of the phase transition up to the melt- ing point of the compound. The position of the maximum is constant with respect to temperature (%970K). I consider it my duty to thank A. I. Kitaygorodski for his Interest in the work. Orig. art. has: I figure. WA, Pi-aguc, 1955, 527 pf: The book is devoted tu the applic.ition of the theory of functiow, of a complex varikbIt, to solving plane problems of the classical mathematical theoi), of elasticity (for static problems mrithout the vff_~-ct'of body forces). Tlie authors plan to deal with the-se questions and other methods of sohring the plane problem of the mathernatical theory of elasticity in further volunies. The whole book Is Written ill a modern mathematical style of the type: definition theurcin proof, slipple- -mented by brief bind comprebensive explanations. I -ne book is divided into four chapters and a mathe- matical supplemunt The first chapter is ~Acviaod to fmidamental concepts, These basic concept-, of the plane problem are introtluced directly by deWation m tho plane, not - as is usual in the litt-i-ature - by spiccialisation from the spatiid problem to plane st.- s and plane defo.-7nation. Thus it directly gives definitions of a plane body, vector mid tensor, .5tress in a pla-ne, delormation etc.; the concept of equilibrium and Hooki's law is also given by definition. A The baiaic concepts are discitssed and a de&ation given of the fundamentA eqiiations for the static case. The authors avoided the procedure usual up to now in the mathe- matical theory of el-astichy, when mathematical and physical considerations alternate. Thus basically they- give the axiomatic construction of the fundamentals plane eWficity. The second chapter gives the formulation of the problem of plane elasticity. The complex functions of stress are. Introduced by a procedure similar to that used by' Mush-clislivili and their characteristics are studied in simply and multiply connected, limited and infinite bodies,- The formulation anct l) of is given of the unique- T IT el 9 el~ 4;1 rood z SMS" 19 611HIC SOlution of the first problern (the coinpo ents- 0.1 extellidl stri~ss or that of the prin(iVal vector are given on the bOlUld-UY) and of the second problem of elasficity (the cniponehis of displacernent given on the bolundary).
