V. .TITLE: Neuropsychic alterations during hypoxic conditions associated. with surgical treatment of heart failure isoup,CE: AMN SSSR. Vestnik, no. 6, 1964, 63-69 ~TOPIC TAGS: heart failure, hypoxia, heart surgery, psychosis, brain :damage 'ABSTRACT psychic disturbances that ap- Features specific to neuro peared in 138 patients (from 4 to 50 years of age) operated on for .acquired or congenital heart failures are described. These disorders developed in connection with hypoxia caused by acute circulatory and respiratory surgery during in operation on the heart or soon there- ~after. Patients with favorable surgical outcomed were examined prior to discharge from the hospital, then for periods varying from 6 months :to 2 years following discharge. Neurological, psychopathological, :and clinico-psychological investigations were conducted. These :Card ACCESSION NRi AP4041.350 investigations made it possible to isolate three degrees of brain .hypoxia appearing as a result of acute circulatory and respiratory .insufficiency following heart surgery. The first degree is charac- ~terized by moderately marked and fully reve rsible neuropsychic dis- torders in the form of an asteno-adynamic condition attended by ,stupor, episodes of hypnagogic delirium, and also by temporary neuro- ,logic disturbances. In the second degree, the neurological and psychic. ~disturbances are more pronounced and persistent and are not always ;amenable.to complete regression. As a rule, clear-cut pathological reflexes become noticeable. Acute psychoses with various syndromes. ;of troubled consciousness occur frequently. The third degree of :brain hypoxia is manifested either by a comatose or a profound. ;soporific state with pronounced neurologic disorders. Its prognosis Js unfavorable and this condition generally precedes the onset of :clinical death. This data may be used both for prevention and treat- !ment of the above disorders and also for eyaluat-ing their prognosis. ASSOCIATION; 11 Moskovskiy mE'd1ts.ins1ciy inatitut im. N. 1. TITLE: Experience With Using S-296 Concrete Pumps in Buillding Hydroelectric Stations in Armenia PERIODICAL: V sb.: Energ. str-vo, Nr 1, M.-L~, 1958. pp 10-13 ABSTRACT: S-Z96 concrete pumps with a capacity of 10 M3/hr were used for transporting and placing concrete in building the overflow dam, underground powerhouse, two aqueducts, and a headwater reservoir, at the Arz=1 hydro- electric station (Sevan-Razdan cascade). 250,000 m3 of concrete was placed by the concrete pumps in 5 months. Average monthly utilization of the concrete pumps was 40-42 machine-shifts, with a 3-sldft (around -the - clock) work. Quick wear of the pump-cylinder jacket is noted; the jacket had to be replaced after each 100-150 m3 of concrete; a low quality of needle bearings is also noted. To prevent clogging of concrete -delivery piping, the consistency of the concrete mix was varied depending on the delivery distance. Card 1 / 1 A. A. S. BADALiYAN, V. Abstract : The effect of early autumn irri[ration on the 12-year old Alabaster variety apple trees was studied at the Kuyby- shev Horticultural Byperimental Station during 1954-1956. The early fall irri(ption increased the Growth of the trunk diameter by 23% and the growth of the shoots by 161%. ToGether with this the resistance of the apple trees to froat was increased. During all the yew,-s of observing these trees there was no frost damage cvid no bark rot.
